Does anyone know what kind of network they have in South Korea? Can I use an ordinary GSM phone or do I need a triband?

in asia i think the bw is 900/1800 throughout. 1900mhz is primarily the standard in the US. my former phone, a nokia 6210. was made in korea by the way. so...
what will you be doing in korea? watch the cup matches? if you are, i envy you. hope i was there too. regards.

Korea is CDMA. So your GSM phone will be useless. What i can recommend though is for you to apply for korean air miles. Once you get your member number you can get a cdma phone for free from KTF he my memory did not fail me. When i was there, they have me a PDA phone for the duration of my stay. Call charges are very reasonable, check the chart.

In addition to what i just said, you can apply for korean air membership via web and your member info will be displayed for you to print immediately. Show that when you are getting the phone at arrival area.
