I NEED the unlock code for an AT&T T616, T-Mobile even sent a formal request to SE for this, as AT&T wouldn't give it to me!!!!

PLEASE, I REALLY WANT THIS CODE!

Good luck I have never heard of AT&T unlocking a phone, you may have to send it off to be done. At this time AT&T is not obligated to unlock a phone.

Thanks for the offer, but I would rather buy a Dongle off eBay than ship my phone off...no offense, I just don't think it's worth the hassle.
...I might even just decide to "upgrade" my phone through my provider, but I first need to bitch them out for how much trouble the Samsung x105 is!!!

This all just sucks, I hate AT&T...I'll NEVER go back!
Especially after that $500 phone bill scam...

Do you know HOW I could find some local places (a way to search) that can unlock phones?
I went all through my local phone directory and no place will unlock a t616!

Dump the phone, because there is not option for another provider. There are only two GSM providers in the US. ATT/Cingular and T-Mobile. 850/1900 versus 900/1900band. You can have it unlocked, but where do you gonna go? Only choice sell it!!!

friscosjoke,

AT&T/Cingular is essentially the same company now, Cingular purchased AT&T a while back. Both support GSM 850/1900MHZ Cingular might have CDMA in some places but I am not sure.

You can try global mobility and they might be able to turn your 616 into a 610 (fw update)

Cingular WS doesn't have CDMA, only TDMA. And you can't make a T616 into a T610. You can make it so that it seems like it, but it won't truly run on the correct bands.

T610 - 900/1800/1900mhz
T616 - 850/1800/1900mhz plus some att/cingular crap on it.

Impossible to change from one to the other. Hardware based different chips for bands.

I read somewhere that Cingular will give you the unlock codes after your contract is up. Once ATT becomes Cingular, they might give you the codes.

Make sure you check to make sure your phone is locked (right, *, left, left, *, left, *,1,2.) I have a Cingular T616 that I bought from Best Buy and all 4 padlocks are open. I would have figured it would be locked but it isn't (I have not tested this w/ another companies SIM.)

As long as your T616 is unlocked, it will run with T-Mobile. The 900 came isn't required in the US.
