@BOOYAR:

Apple still haven't officially announced a European release date or price, however, HMV have them for pre-order on their web-site at £199. It remains to be seen if that will be the final price.

If it was me, I'd wait for the official European release for warranty purposes.

Its not worth the money when you can get 10 gigabytes more space for another 50 quid. You wont get 1000 songs on it if you care about sound quality either....... i just think you might regret it when the novelty factor wears off, and you run out of space. [addsig]

run out of space, what are you on about, 1000 songs is roughly 70 albums. I have less than that, and listen to a fraction regulaly

Plus the fact that even if you did have more than 1000 songs stored in iTunes, you can just copy a sub-set of them to the iPod. Unless you want to listen to more than 60 hours of music in one go, an iPod mini has plenty of space!

Why do you need to carry that much music with you anyway?

I've got a 10gb iPod with 2300+ tunes on it, 95% full. However, I only listen to a small proportion of my whole collection at any one time. I could easily manage with a smaller iPod.

Well 70 of my cds encoded at 192kbps occupied about 3.8 gigabytes so you may be pushing it. Then again, you can encode at 128kbps which is acceptable for most people. [addsig]

Do you really want to decide what music you want to listen to before you go out, then spend a bunch of time copying/deleting the songs you want? Later in the day you might find yourself hankering for some of the songs you left on your pc. Thats the purpose of an ipod, to have all your music with you. Otherwise you might aswell just use oggplay on your p9. [addsig]

Personally, I usually go through 'phases' of music listening, whereby I'll listen to the same few current favourite or new albums and tracks for a few days/weeks at a time. So I don't change my listening every time I go out.

Even if I did want to change the music I have with me, it doesn't take a 'bunch of time'. It takes a matter of minutes, if not seconds to plug the iPod into my Mac, drag 'n' drop the files and disconnect.

I guess it depends on the size of your music collection and whether you really do need to have every track you own with you all the time. I would guess that most people don't.

I dont understand why anyone would buy a mini. Its only SLIGHTLY cheaper than a 10 or 15gb model, its only SLIGHTLY smaller than a 10 or 15gb model, but its capacity is SIGNIFICANTLY less than a 10 or 15gb model. The only possible reason for having one is coolness factor- which i have to admit is a major factor in my purchasing decisions- but logically, the mini needs to come down in price before it is worth buying. @switchbitch:

Take a read of this article which explains why the iPod mini isn't as bad value as you think when compared to its intended competition (i.e. not other iPods).

As it says "iPod mini is not meant to be an alternative to the iPod, but to the high-end flash-based and other small hard drive-based players."

What a coincidence! Apple have just today announced that the iPod mini will be available in Europe on July 24th for £179.00.

It's just been added to the UK Apple Store.

Not long to wait BOOYAR...
