t65 quality problems |

Hi Everybody,
I just thought i would share with everyone my first experience with buying a Sony-Ericsson phone.
I have always had Nokia phones before and never experienced any problems at all. I decided to get the T65 this time because of the GPRS and inbuilt modem, and Nokia had no affordable phone in Australia with these features.
Here are some of the problems I had with the phone:
1. A horrible, annoying buzzing noise when the light is on.
2. Phone freezing randomly, with no way to reset. Had to wait between 5 to 15 mins everytime for phone to reset itself.
3. Locking up when using WAP. Would get halfway through loading a page and then stop. Have to disconnect/reconnect to fix
4. Antenna signal very weak. Could not get a signal at my house. If I put my SIM card in my daughters Nokia 3310 I get almost full signal.
5. SIM card holder impossible to slide out without a screwdriver or pliers. When you finally did get it out it came ALL the way out and flew across the room.
6.Could not read large mails.
The software version on the phone is R3A010.
The above problems are not the worst part though. I thought no problem - I just got a lemon - I will take it to the service centre, as the warranty said it is guaranteed to be fixed within 3 hrs and if the phone is less than 30 days old they would replace it with a new one.
They took it apart and said that the phone was irrepairable and that it would be replaced under the "Early Life Failure" warranty. But guess what? Service centres don't keep phones in stock, and Sony-Ericsson won't send out a new one until they see the irrepairable one. So now I have to wait for up to 2 weeks for Sony-Ericcson to check my phone, and then send out a new one . So much for an "authorised" service centre hey? In the meantime I have nothing.
The crazy part is that Sony-Ericssons policy is to replace any phones that fail within 30 days with new ones - the customer doesn't have a choice. If the phone was more than 30 days old at least I would be guaranteed a working phone within 3 hours, which is all I want anyway. Work that out? I rang the Sony-Ericsson support Centre about this but all I got was a programmed robot who said "I'm sorry sir, but that is our policy" (he was actually human - but he may as well have been a robot).
So, I have learnt my lesson the hard way, and will stick to Nokia from now on, where I know that I will get handset quality and a customer service centre that at least pretend to care.
If I have just been unlucky, please correct me, and also I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience. |

Don't know sorry - whatever Optus in Australia uses. But surely both phones use the same? |

both 3310 and T65 are dualband... and if you don't have some kind of net monitor in the phone you can't see if you are on 900 or 1800... 900 is the main frequency, 1800 is used in areas that needs high capacity.

somes network are 100% GSM 900 or 100% DCS1800,
Here in France, the 2 oldest GSM compagny are in GSM 900 but put 1800 BTS since 2 yeays in cities.
The last compagny use 1800, but put GSM 900 BTS in countryside since 1 year.
By the way, can i ask to my Ercisson center to activate netmonitoring on my phone ?

ubugger - I am in Adelaide. I am surprised that you had the same probs as me in Sydney. I thought you guys were normally looked after, unlike us from a country town - lol.
So maybe I didnt just get a lemon after all. I will be intrested to see if anyone else has had the same probs here in Aus. Maybe they just send the crap ones out here.
Did you get a brand new phone, and if so, what is the software version on it? |

Az,
I am sorry that your phone still does not work - you have me worried now. If I still have problems with my replacement phone I am going to return it and get a Panasonic GD75. I have heard they are quite good. |

well, my phone is back to ericsson, AGAIN,
customer service is aparantly gonna ring me, i'm gonna tell them that i work in retail (i do) which DOES sell ericsson phones, and that i am VERY VERY dubious about recommending an ericsson phone EVER again based upon my experience, basically, i wanna convince the ericsson people that they should swap my t65 for a t68, because i've had 7 faulty phones, and that means 14 trips (20 mins each way) to the service place which is DAMNED ridiculas, i think the t65 has the potential to be an awesome phone, BUT, only if it actually works properly.......

Az,
What a nightmare! I can't believe you've had seven phones. Wow! I agree, the t65 has great features for it's price - pity about the quality.
Az - did you take the phone straight to the service centre, or did you try to change it where you bought it for a new one? I tried to exchange mine at the point-of-sale, but got told that ericssons policy is to not let dealers exchange faulty phones, whereas if it was a nokia or panasonic they could have changed it straight over.

Sorry it's been a while Ted,
But, yeah, i DID change my phones over at the POS, with the t39's, by the time i managed to change to the t65, they were sick of me and didn't want to see me again, they told me to go to a service centre. you want to do that anyway, because then you get a NEW phone rather than another ericsson from the same batch that's gonna have the same problems.... i've got my phone back, FINALLY, not new, but they re loaded the software on the phone, it's doing wierd things, the reception doesn't seem to be as good tho, as i can hardly talk on it now at my house.... I'll just have to see, if this phone is stuffed (makes it my 8th unit) i'm gonna be reallllllly pissed because i've spent so much time driving, etc, etc, to get the stupid phone fixed. However, i now have a customer service rep at ericsson of my own! hahahaha! I'll demand a t68 or something if this phone stuffs up, if it does, i'll SPEW! You can email me if you prefer at
ubugger@kissmyass.com
and we can chat there if you prefer, this forum gets busy!
thanks,

Az,
Chit mate - you must be ready to strangle someone! You must feel very privelidged to have your own service rep!
I got my replacement phone on Fri (took the full 10 working days), and so far havent had any probs except for a couple of wap lockups. BTW - did you know that if your phone freezes - you can hold the 'no' key for 15 secs and it will reset the phone? That has come in very handy!
One thing i did notice is that the backlight now is a lot dimmer than on my previous phone, and goes out as soon as you start a call. I guess they do this to eliminate the buzzing noise on previous versions.
Also - the reception appears to be much better - I have no probs making calls from home now.
Good luck trying to get a free T68 - you deserve one!

Well, i've talked on my phone tonight, reception is STILL just as bad as before, and the phone STILL CUTS OUT! Grrrrrrr...... The service centre said "tested phone, working 100%" BUT, i don't know how they tested the phone, as ALL the wap stuff and bookmarks, etc, etc, were ALL corrupt, they reckon they tested it? Um, no... sorry, but they didn't. My sms's are harder than ever to send, takes 3 tries to get 1 through...... I've had it up to *holds virtual hand above head* here with this phone..... i'm NOT gonna drive to another service centre, i want ericsson to ship to my house, this is ridiculas...
Glad yours works tho! BTW, it SHOULDN'T crash on WAP.... i can't even test mine, as whenever i go to set it up through sonyericsson.com, my phone gets sent blank sms's but no settings.... this is stoopid.

my t65's sw is r3b007 and i have not experienced any problems whatsoever. i got my 2nd phone coz the 1st one i had it upgraded to r4a007 but the company who did the upgrade busted my phone so they replaced it. they told me that i have to wait 3 weeks for my replacement phone. i emailed them and gave them a good reason to hasten the waiting period so i got mine in 10 days. switch to another network too coz some of your problems are network related. mine also crashes during wap but that is also network related.
