IcyPole is a smart-phone application which uses Bluetooth personal area network technology to seek out other in-range devices containing music that may be of interest. Once the application detects locally available music matching the consumers own music profile, the device alerts the consumer and allows wireless music sampling as well as a range of community features.

Press Release:

San Francisco, CA – June 28 2004 – AgentArts, Inc. (www.agentarts.com), a leading provider of entertainment personalization technologies, today gave a sneak preview of its mobile preference matching system for digital music codenamed “IcyPole” to select press, analysts and partner attendees of the JavaOne Conference (www.java.sun.com/javaone).

IcyPole is a smart-phone application which uses Bluetooth personal area network technology to seek out other in-range devices containing music that may be of interest. Once the application detects locally available music matching the consumers own music profile, the device alerts the consumer and allows wireless music sampling as well as a range of community features.

The solution builds upon AgentArts’ proprietary ExpertDriven™ personalization technology which creates a server or client side entertainment profile for each consumer based on online activity or music stored on a device.

“Advances in smart-phone storage combined with the always with you, always-on nature of mobile phones are turning the mobile phone into a powerful way to discover new music and connect with like-minded people,” said AgentArts CEO Andrew Coates. “In the very near future, mobile consumers could become walking music sampling stations. Our solution solves the problem of finding music that consumers will actually be interested in, as well as finding like-minded people. Wireless carriers can factory install Icy Pole on all the handsets and create communities within their subscriber base.”

“IcyPole” is currently in beta and both Java and native C++ versions for various smart-phones will be available for commercial deployment by carriers and smart-phone manufacturers in Q4 2004. For additional demonstrations of “Icy Pole,” contact AgentArts at media@agentarts.com. [addsig]
