The didnt ask me if I wanted it and B.They were ripping me off. they went away and came back telling me I would get a credit of £2.50 on my bill. They removed it but could not getanysites till middnight last night due to problems on their GPRS network and their wank portal Vodafraud Live. typical Vodafone really !

well spending £1 on your credit card in order to get a £2.50 credit on your bill or as top up credit seems like a good deal to me...i really can't see how vodafone can benefit from restricting people from accessing pr0n on the net (net access earns them money) and giving customers £1.50 and having the hassle of training shop staff and customer service staff about this.
so if you think it's vodafone trying to earn money or trying to scam you then i think you're a fool, i think vodafone did this for the same reason MSN removed the chat rooms...to make the internet safer for kids and to make sure parents had some sort of control over what their kids can see...parents (or at least good parents) will keep an eye on what their kids watch on tv, why not give them control over what their spotty oik of a kid looks at on their 3410? and i'm sure that one of the reasons Vodafone did this was to raise their public profile - but at least they did this by doing something good.
If you really object to being given £1.50 to have the bar taken off you can go to a Vodafone shop with a proof of id (driving licence for example) and get the bar removed for free....but at least this way you've made yourself £1.50 - which, if my calculations are correct, is about 600KB of data (depending on your price plan) - which equates to around 10 decent sized pr0no pictures....lovely stuff! |

Hi Welcome to esato, I agree with you 100% it is a good idea to stop kids from surfing the darker side of the net, and once I had been appraised of the facts by vodafone I did not feel I was being ripped off.
However prior to me making they guy (who had NOT been trained) go away and find out why Vodafone were going to charge me £1 to remove the bar (he did not know about the refund until I kicked off!) I did think network ripping me off!
If you read my post again you will see I was giving an account of my call prior to being told I would get a refund and answering a previous post regards difficulty in gaining network access I belive I made my views on Vodafones expensive and ineffective Live portal my views on that will not change!

Did you really have to quote that entire post?
Vodafone may be wanting to monitor kids net access (isn't that a job for the parent?) But that just does not justify taking away access your customers ordered and paid for without so much as a word

I don't think Vodafone want to monitor kid's access, they just want to prevent kids from accessing bad stuff which i'm all for. Now i know the way it's been done is not ideal, but when it was done on July 1st it was well publicised in the paper and news and when you try to access smut on your phone it tells you how to get rid of it.
It would've been more ideal to apply this bar when the phone is connected but now VF has 13mil odd customers it's a bit too late for that.
And i really can't see a parent being able to monitor a kid's access to pr0n through their phone...have you seen most parents try to use a phone compared to the technical ability of a kid with a phone? no contest!! |

Content controm-Good or bad idea?Dealing with content queries on a daily basis..yes I work for Them!...mainly from parents who believe vodafone are somehow encouraging children to go onto these sites is this not a responsible idea? Would you like your children viewing some of this stuff?? It is now asked at point of sale for all new contracts - "will a child be using this phone?" and the restrictionscan be taken off at any time in seconds providing you can prove your age. 100.000's of customers who were identified as over 18 and already regularly using adult services were not barred. The fact that it also restrics calls to Premium rate adult numbers also goes some way to protect "unsuspecting" individuals who just called that £5 a minute line out of "curiosity" - yes this does happen daily!! The downside? maybe this year The will only post a £9billion profit!! |

When i got my first Vodafone Live phone over here in New Zealand, the SE Z600, i thought the only sites i can access was within Vodafone Live.Com. but then i noticed you can open url and add bookmarks, to then i realised i could get around through that so i get all my ringtones free from ringtonesnation.com rather than paying like $4/ ringtone. i already knew about using BT and infrared. |
