@arnoldc, thanx for the help! I called *888 already and they said all I needed was to fax a letter of request. I hope to get GPRS up and running soon enough.

@arnoldc, there are rumors going around that GPRS won't be free soon. Pero like all other rumors, Globe (in my case) refuses to acknowledge about it.

What about smart??

Yes, it's free. Just fax them the letter of request and a copy of an ID and they'll have it working in 24 hrs. or less.

Smart's GPRS won't be free forever. But so far, no advisory nor official communication about GPRS charges are being given to its subscribers.

This reply from Smart will end speculations about GPRS charges, for now.

Good afternoon Mr. Cruz.
Your concern on the scheme is regularly coordinated with Marketing and other groups involved. To date, however, the rates are not yet available.
We shall inform you, as soon as everything is in place. Mean time, do enjoy the service where it is accessible.

Have a nice day, Sir..

---

So, enjoy while it's FREE!

Been using the GPRS for WAP already, so I have no problems with that.

Thing is, I can't get the internet connection using GPRS to work. The instructions in the Smart site use the cable modem of the T39, but I wanna use the IR modem. How do I set it up?

I tried following the details given by Smart, but whenever I try to connect, it only says "no dialtone". I assumed this meant the PC couldn't connect via IR with phone, but whenever I test the other applications (i.e. My Pictures, XTNDConnect) using IR, they work perfectly.

What am I doing wrong?

For details, I'm using Win ME on a notebook PC, T39m w/ FW R3A.

Help...

arnoldc,

I was able to get to the stage when the screen would show "connecting"...but after a while, it'll stop, saying "wrong APN". So I checked my settings again, found the mistake and corrected it.

But now, it can't detect the modem again. It's weird 'coz the IR works with everything else. I HAVE gone online using the IR modem before, but that was just once and it was using the normal GSM settings.

Smart's GPRS is acting up again. Last night and early this morning, it is very unstable. Your phone will simply show "Connecting..." and that's it.

The smart1 apn is being fine tuned. Use the internet apn through a free gateway instead. For the laptop make sure that the dial no matches the correct cid for the internet apn
