China Unicom and Qualcomm are developing GSM1x technology. With one GSM 1x handset, users can switch between the CDMA and GSM network by only one bottom press. This technology appears in China first because the 3G and EDGE employment has not been finalized in China areas. However, China Unicom has promoted the CDMA 1x service for 1 year and is running a GSM network. In order to fully utilize the 1x data service, GSM1x solution is made to encourage GSM users to use the CDMA 1x fast data service. For CDMA 1x users, they now have a handset for worldwide roaming and can have better coverage in China also. China Unicom calls such handset and service as 'World Wind'
