Hi,
Today the first particular funded space ship has made the first real test (with a human on board) in Mojave desert in California.
This could be one of the most important event within the last 20 years. It went almost unnoticed because it is only the starter for HUGE changes in our son's and grandson's lifes and not in hours.
This event I think is more important than Charles Lindberg cross of Atlantic back in 30s.
The company that made this event possible is called Scale Composites and behind it we found Paul Allen (Microsoft founder).
For those who don't know what XPrize is...
It is a 10 milion dollars prize for the first team that will put a crew of 3 people into space using the same ship within a window of 2 weeks. The whole research must be funded by private funds ant not guvernamental ones.
XPrize have been started somewhere in 1996. It ressembles the prize won by Charles Lindberg back in 30s.That event have had a huge impact on the aero travel industry and have been the fire starter for the whole industry.Only 20 years later, Boeing has launched the first jet propelled plane,Boeing 707, which shown how much the industry has progressed thanks to people like Lindberg.
The step has been repetead today and let us all hope that such initiatives will create an aerospace industry that will put an end once for all to the monolithic space programs like USA has now.
Robert Zubrin, the president of Mars Society, explains in its "Entering Space" book why USA space program is crippled today and it can't put a man on the moon as it did back in 60s and 70s.I agree with him 100% and the Columbia spaceship crash proves this...

CNN has broadcasted this huge event live...and I heard (cause I don't have CNN here) that the test was OK.I am very happy because of that. |

I personally think this is fantastic. I was reading about it in the paper this morning and caught the good news on CNN a short while ago.
So, I am one step closer to realising a dream in my lifetime without having to pay the russians $20m!

Yes, one of my life's biggest dream is to see the earth live from outer space.I am optimistic and i believe that with a bit of luck this could happen.Of course, without paying millions...
There are now 20 teams competing in XPrize and one of them is from Romania.Their ship is called Orizont.I am very proud of them. |
