Hi

I have just replaced my old 16KB SIM card with a 32KB card but when I select the Memory Status on my T68m it doesn't appear to have any more space available for phone numbers, my limit is still 200 which is what it was on the 16KB card. Does anyone know what the extra 16KB is used for?

Cheers Mike

OK well I will let the SMS hang around and see how many I can get onto the SIM. I wonder if 64KB SIM cards allow more space for Contact storage. Its always a problem when you have 250 contacts and only space for 200 on the SIM.

Thanks for your replies.

well i had this problem. i just went through my phonebook and deleted anyone i hadn't called in the past month. you'd be surprised how many you delete. although i uae the phone's memory. i hate it when you have three spaces for one person jsut becuase they have a mobile and fax.

The new sims are going to be for 'java' downloads & stuff like that - uno - new games, wap passwords secure info etc & slighty bigger capacity - sims have been the 'same' for a while - but they are now being made into a more dynamic storage device.

a.f.a.i.k. all t68 phones before the "i" upgrade use static memory, meaning that there is a certain amount of memory used for each part of the phone, contacts, sms, etc.

The "i" uses dynamic memory management.

But I think even that is not important since the t68 doesn't use the SIM card. You're not increasing the phone's memory, you may simply save more contacts / SMSs etc. on your card (i.e. when you "save" an sms, it is saved on the SIM).

I did run out of contact space on my sim card. Lost some entries !

i use a 64k sim card which allows storage for up to 500 contacts and i forgot how many more sms messages. i don't know if it would be the same on your 32k sim, but you can try checking this anyway.

go to the sim's menu. it's usually the first item on the phone's connectivity items menu. there should be an item on the sim menu for phonebook, or something to that effect. when you enter the phonebook menu, you can choose whether you want to use the Main or Extra memory. each one provides storage of up to 250 contacts.

i believe this is because phones are designed to handle only up to 250 contacts from the sim. therefore with my sim, you actually have two phonebooks of 250 contacts each, and have to select which one you want to use at any given time.

to tell which type of sim you have, i believe it should be printed on the sim whether it is a 32k or 64k sim. if it doesn't say anything, then i guess it's probably a 16k (or maybe even an 8k!) sim.

Strange in South Africa the 32k sim stores 250 no's.
