DCU-11 USB cable driver woes |

I'm trying to install a DCU-11 USB Data Cable onto my laptop running Windows XP. I went with the USB cable for lack of Serial ports on my laptop. Now, there was no CD with the cable, so I downloaded the USB drivers from Sony Ericsson. After downloading the zip file, I extracted the folder and placeed it elsewhere besides my desktop. I plugged in the cable and got the "Add hardware wizard." I did as the instructions said by telling Windows where the drivers were and pointing it to the 2K_XP directory in the driver set. According to Sony Ericsson, this should work, but it doesn't! The wizard fails each time that it tries.
So, I ask if anyone has anything to help me get this working. I've tried many different things with no success. |

Check if there are any hardware malfunctions in system panel. if nothing is wrong, reinstall windows
Thats what I do if I have a problem I can't solve |

I did figure out what the problem was. The drivers that the cable uses isn't the same set the SE provides!
I bought the cable from cellphoneshop.com, so let this be a bit of a warning to all who decide to buy a cable there. Yes, it was $25, but I had to do all sorts of work to get it to work and it never makes a constant connection with the phone. I guess it's the price you pay for low prices. |
