The most annoying thing with the T68 for me is the slow T9. I send a lot of SMS. I type very fast and when i have typed a long mess i put my phone away for a couple of minutes (YES it REALLY takes a couple of minutes) to let the phone empty the keyboard buffer and finnish typing what i typed. When the phone is ready i pick it up and go back and correct if there was any misstakes. I have read some postings that T9 seems to be a little faster with R1C over R1B so i just upgraded my phone. At first i thought its faster but then i thought that its not and then i reallised it seems to be quicker in the start of the message but when you have typed a couple of sentences it starts to get slower again. I cant remember that i had this feeling of progressive slowliness on R1B.
So my conclussion is that R1C is better when you type short messages. If you type long messages it does not matter so much if you have R1B or R1C.
But i dont have R1B anymore so its a little tricky to really tell whats faster or not.
I really hope Ericsson finds some way to optimize the T9 code more.

I live in stockholm and my girlfriend in budapest. (until soon )
SMS has been our main connection beside voicecall on internet.
I have tried some different phones during the last year. Siemens S35i: very bad keys, you easily miss a lot of keypresses. Siemens S40: very good keypad. And now t68: the best, allows the fastest typing, would be perfect if not for the slow screen update.

I made some scientific speed checks on the t68 R1C progressive slowliness

If I type "Why is this phone so slow."
The phone will have come to "Why is this phone so" when i am ready typing. I then waited until the phone was ready typing the last word and typed the same thing again, after the first sentence, with the same speed. Now the phone had only typed "Why is this phone" when i was ready. For the third sentence it only got to "Why is this" before i was ready typing. The forth sentence it got to "Why is". After this it took more sentences to outrun the phone more. It was not until at sentence number 25 (about 6 sms in length with long messages turned on) that i had gained another word. The phone had finished "Why" when i was finished with the whole sentence.

Maybe on sentence number 60 or something the phone would not even have started before you are ready typing the sentence.

I have seen people in my country type SMS as fast as you do

But true, R1B and R1C SMS speed is the same and has no noticeable difference for me. Although I don't complain becase the phone can keep up with me.

Speaking of SMS and T9, has anyone figured out how to get it to autmatically pick up words with an apostrophe.

So to type "isn't" I have to type
1) i - s - t (comes up as gsm 1/5)
2) joystick to option 5 (isn)
3) click to select "isn"
4) hit . (1/14)
5) joystick to ' (6/14)
6) hit t

Where as on other phones all I had to do was type isn't and the phone worked out that I was trying to put an apoostrophe in and went straight to the word.

I have stopped writing isn't didnīt canīt and so on. I write is not, did not, can not. Then the words are first choices in T9 and there is no extra keys to press.

I hope it wonīt take to long until someone makes a phone that you can program yourself to make the perfect sms phone. The Nokia Communicator should be able to recieve user software i think. But its to big. A t68 with linux or symbian epoc would be perfect. (Together with a faster proccessor i think) (and maybe more colours)...

@ nyback

Your are lucky in english, because you can easily replace the apostrophe...
That's definitely not the case in french... and we use it really a lot...

I'm sorry, but I really think the T9 function in the T68 is by far the worst I've ever had... I used to have Nokia, the 8250 was really fast and not just with the typing, but afterwards, actually sending it. With T68 you have to go through NUMBER>PHONEBOOK>FIND>PERSON and the press YES

Nokia was much quicker and I used to send much more sms, the good thing is that I'm probably saving money now... :0)

Nokias are made for common, lazy and fashion people. NOT people that appreciate good phones!

Hmmmm I have the T39m, firmware R2K, and my T9 is in French and I have no problems with it, it's very fast on the T39
Even if I type a long SMS you can not see a difference.

I also agree that I'm a bit dissapointed at the SMS-writing speed on the T68. Had a Nokia 3310 before T68 and was used to write very fast. Why is the Nokiaphones and Ericssonphones so different on SMS, when they are using the same system (T9)??? Any reasonable answer on that? But I have to say that T68 is a WAAAAY better phone than 3310 The only thing is the SMS-speed...
