Why do we have to go to a Service Center to upgrade our phones? |

I'm getting really frustrated because of the lame service I get from mobile phone dealers. I have an early T68 and of course I really want to get the MMS T68i upgrade as soon as possible, but I gave up.
I visited about 5 different big dealers so far, and if I ask them if they can upgrade my phone, I get reactions like:
1. it's impossible
2. it'll take up to 3 weeks
3. I'm from another planet, cause they don't know of an upgrade, and they know always better .
What makes Flashing a SonyEricsson T68 so special that you have to go to a 'so called' service point? I mean, it's nothing more like connecting the T68 (I've got bluetooth and a datacable) to a PC and running software, right? Most users on these forums here are smart people, so they'll probably can figure it out. It looks like SOnyEricsson is overprotecting themselves by not releasing the upgrades as downloads on the internet. I mean, if I want to upgrade other hardwire (like motherboards), then I take full responsibility to flash it.
So, simpel question: is there going to be any chance that SE will release the upgrade as download ever? I cannot believe that they want thousands of T68 owners to go back to a store every time to have their phone upgraded.
Anyone else who had more luck then I have in Belgium? |

I doubt that SonyEricsson will ever release the software on the net. Remeber that they have used $$$ to develop this software, and don't want "the man in the street" to be able to alter it. Microsoft is not releasing MS source code for free either. |

Problems could occur during/because of the flashing process, making the phone unstable (e.g. constant restart), or even damage the phone beyond repair.
If you damage your own motherboard during flashing (a real possibility), it's your own problem and no one else is affected. A phone is a device which requires government approval for its RF performance, and so on. If the phone is damaged or altered as a result of flashing, it might no longer meet the regulations, and might affect the whole network.

Laffen, this has nothing to do with source codes. They just need to release a patch wich you simply can Flash.
New motherboards have Bluetooth and other wireless communication protocolls, which also are regulated by governments. So also that would be a lame excuse to not release the software. |
