ok so i have an assignment due on tuesday and i have been asked:
explain what is meant by the terms:
- exercise
- free exercise
- resisted exercise
- assisted exercise
i know what each of them are but cant find any decent or long winded definitions on the net - i want some really good and specific answers but so far i have only found:
"Exercise is physical activity that is planned or structured. It involves repetitive bodily movement done to improve or maintain one or more of the components of physical fitness—cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition"
does anybody study sports etc or no of any half decent sites because i cannot find any and its doing my head in aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggg
also anyone out there a personal trainer, what are the best course etc
cheers

When I was at collage I did Sport & Recreation level 1, Football Coach, Basketball coach, Sports leaders award, YMCA Circuit trainers, ISRM Sports Technicians Certificate, Hanson award, Health and Fitness suite operators certificate, Pool Plant operators certificate, Pool Lifeguard qual, ASA Teachers (swimming), RLSS Trainer/Asessors qual and a few others. All over 2 years.
I currently work as a Duty Supervisor,Fitness instructor and Lifeguard which I've been doing for 9 years.
Will be going on a Focus level 1 fitness course (apparently its a good start for someone looking into being a personal trainer) soon so if anyone has got any pointers it would be helpful.
One good tip I will give you is keep away from anything to do with pulse fitness as the company is a total waste of time and money and their courses are only recognised within their corporation which is totally different to what they tell you.

@bianca - So you were a 'lifeguard' then ? Me, I just use 'safeguard' when taking a bath - once a month, that is. |

@bianca. Yeah its a good job to start with as its a stepping stone into the leisure industry if thats what someone is looking to do as a carreer. We employ lots of students as lifeguards and also train people to become qualified.
The only downside is that it can become very boring if its all you are qualified to do.
What do you do now ?

I loved the job as lifeguard but it doesn't pay a lot so when i got a job at a beach club besides my study i didn't have time anymore to work as lifeguard. I still go to their parties but not for working anymore |

Yeah. Some companies that run Sports/Leisure centres charge minimum wage for lifeguards. Where I work a lifeguard is on £6.59 per hour. The council who I work for has the highest paid lifeguards in the area.

It is volunteer work here. So we dont really get money for it, more a little amount to pay food and the cost of traveling. Here you have to see it as a hobby and not really as a job. But it was my hobby and when i was younger i didnt care that i didnt earn much but now i am a student and a SE freak i need the money |
