Well, Symbian came out of Epcoc, which was first really utelized by Ericsson. Take the R380 for example. It is an operating system, that was specially developed for mobile phones. Today many companys have stakes in Symbian. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, others. You can buy software for it, just like for other operating systems. Recently, it has been the fasted growing share of smartphones. With users wary of windows, it is has become a great alternative.
