"The National Restaurant Association is reportedly launching a new program to member companies that offer club punch card programs. Rather than getting your club card punched or stamped each time you buy a footlong sandwich, the system grabs your member id from your mobile phone or PDA and stores the transaction in a database. For members that do not have a Bluetooth enabled device, the Association will sell a small rechargeable Bluetooth enabled keychain for less that $5. The best part of the system is that this will work across restaurant chains, so that you don't have to carry multiple cards -- just your phone or special keychain. The Association plans to offer this system for external industry uses -- travel, security, locks, etc. They expect to launch this service in early 2005."
