Sidetalkers of the world, unite: Tokyo's Conran Shops are to get an exclusive version of Nokia's 7600 in June. If you're quick enough to bag one of the limited edition of 300, a fearfully expensive Y73,000
gets you a serial-numbered box (which is, er, in no sense the first thing we throw away) and a strap, plus some plain black sidepieces to snap onto the phone. Maybe we should say "credulous" rather than "quick". Nokia's running all sorts of promotions for the 7600 in Japan (since it is, incredible as this may sound, the only handset they currently have that you can use here), but we don't like their chances for getting a foot in the door given that they seem pathologically unwilling to divulge which WCDMA carrier you can use it with (is it Vodafone? Is it DoCoMo?) and it costs more than twice as much as any phone the Japanese manufacturers are offering. [addsig]

That phone is sooooo annoying to use. It doesnt even look like a phone. The buttons are wierdly spaced so its hard to write messages etc. I wont be going for one of those, it looks what a chewit looks like when i round to corners with my hand

The Nokia 7600 is but a small fone indeed! But, defining it's physical appearance, it now looks like a carpenter's 'tape-measure' to me !

Crap outer casing (allthough stylish)
Good features

6650 works also in Japan. (J-phone: Vodafone)
7600 works in Japan. (J-phone also)

DoCoMo have a proprietary WCDMA network aka FOMA (which bears differences with specification-compliant 3G networks deployed elsewhere -such as J-phone) and need specific so-called FOMA phones that can work on such network: FOMA phones on the market do not work in any other 3G network than DoCoMo's network in Japan.
But it seems its ok to do this on an Island, where it's hard to escape
Fairly similar situation on the Isle of Man

It's not exactly sidetalking is it. Despite the weird shape, you talk on it like a normal phone. And it fits pretty nicely on your cheek.

But then of course.. I have actually tried the phone, what do I know.

People tend to knock it when they see pics of it, but when they see it in real life, the majority think it looks cool! I agree its not the typical phone shape, but then again, who wants to be mr.average?
