I've never really thought about this: Always SE vs Nokia! |

Interesting thought (if anyone else hasn't posted this )...
Why doesn't anyone on this Esato forum compare Sony Ericsson with say:
:: Siemens
:: Motorola
:: Samsung
Why are people on this forum always comparing Nokia to Sony Ericssons (vice versa)???
Is it cuz SE fanatics know that Nokia is a BIG successful mobile manufacturer, and SE fanatics try to demolish the fact (or even hide it) by coming up with as many negative comments as they can???
Or maybe it's that they know Nokia is a BIG successful company, and cuz of this SE fanatics try and bring Nokia down?
I guess there is a small minority of Esato users who truely dislike Nokia's because they actually had a Nokia and prefer Sony Ericssons... but i must say i think most of the SE fanatics generally hate nokia cuz of the above reasons (not cuz they have had Nokia mobiles and have had Sony Ericssons).
Finally (after my huge speech!!! )...
What are your thoughts???

I think it goes back to the old days of Nokia vs Ericsson. Most SE diehards i think are ericsson users : and are still quite annoyed that their old enemy won the battle of the 1990's!

hmmm, interesting thought!
I do wonder if some people jump on the bandwagon so to speak - one person slags Nokia off, then everyone else piles in and does the same as it's the 'done' thing. Of course, there will be people who genuinely have had problems with Nokia and really don't like them.
I personally quite like Nokia as well - although they have done some annoying things of late (like crippling Bluetooth and IR to only work with other Nokias, or other certain devices, or when their batteries blow up!), but also have bought out some good phones. I've not tried many of their newer models - although I had a 3200 for a while, and didn't get on with it - no Bluetooth, rubbish IR implementation, small, poor screen, but did have the radio and flashlight functions! I sold it a couple of months after getting I got it with a new contract.
Each to their own I guess - it's just that most people here Only Take A Sony Ericcson

I've never used other mobiles than Nokia and Ericsson so can't compare other brands. But I have to tell that I'm not only disgusted by Nokia's (bad connectivity, no way to expand phone's capabilties, etc.), I'm also afraid of them! My friend who has an 7250 came to me last week and asked for how much the DLC-3 batteries cost. I asked him why he wanted to learn its price and he said that the night before he left his phone charging and in the middle of the night he woke up with a loud bang... Guess what? The battery exploded! Stay as far as you can from Nokia's!.. |

I think the reason why most people on this forum compare SE to Nokia is because Nokia are rapidly becoming the joke company of the mobile phone industry.
Their designs for new phones are ridiculously silly and have no style what-so-ever (im sorry, but the 3650 keypad isnt style, its insanity !).
SE on the other hand seem to be going from strength to strength where the style of their phones is concerned. Nokia, along with other companies have come to a dead end where style is concerned, and have no ideas left when it comes to making their phones look good. They seem to think the only way to improve is to make drastic changes, such as putting the buttons along the sides of the screen (SX1, 7600) or arranging them in silly shapes (6600, 3650, 3200, 7610).
SE keep it simple, make the phone look like a phone but make it look stylish. Thats why we see phones like the Sharp TM100 that are obviously based on SE designs.
Nokia are the world market leaders, which makes them the biggest target for ridicule. The only reason they hold onto such a big share is because they have such loyal fans, most of which think Nokia make the best phones and so refuse to even look at anything else. Their ignorance is their downfall.

Gotta say, not all Nokia users are like that. I'm not brand loyal at all, like ive mentioned before, if its a good mobile than get it (it doesnt matter what manufacturer its by). Ive had a motorola mobile before...
Also you'll find that with the 3650, Nokia have made a 3660:
P.S: I'm sure there's plenty of people who like the 3650 cuz it's not in a typical block form.

I think most of those people who slag Nokia off have never had a problem, but as you said, they are just jumping on the bandwagon.
Who wants to be left behind anyway. Lets jump on the wagon and all slag off nokia, even if we've never owned one.
As for the SE vs Nokia debate. We all wanna be the most popular (maybe we'll be the most popular if we slag nokia off?)... People just wanna see SE being better than the market leaders...

The 3660 is Nokia saying ' look, we f*cked up with the buttons on the 3650, we admit it ! '

At least it shows they listen to their customers and make mobiles that they know customers will want. Who doesn't make mistakes??? |

HAHA ! Nokia listen to their customers ? no they do not !
If they did, their phones would be more like SE's, and they wouldnt continue to make such silly looking phones to get their products noticed - its the only way they can keep up with SE in style terms.

2 rite!!! And whats worse, the photo quality with the T630 is as bad as the T610. At least when Nokia make an upgrade they actually 'upgrade' something.
Goes to show Nokia and SE are similar cuz they both upgrade phones, but it means Nokia actually listens to customers (cuz they improve) where as SE don't.

SE did a Nokia when they released the T630, they wanted to cash in on people before their next big phone release.
The other reason why they released the T630 is because of the poor visibility of the T610's screen. SE felt it necessary to improve upon it and so put a TFT in the T630.
I personally dont have any problem with the quality of the T610's camera. When the phone was first released it was one of the best none-VGA camera out, much better than the Samsung V200's and other phones back then.
Im sorry Ken, but Nokia dont listen to their customers, they really really dont. If they did, they would improve upon their phones instead of releasing the same phone in a different case, under a new name every month. I think i read somewhere that in Q1 of this year, Nokia released 14 phones worldwide... holy christ !

As an example, I've mentioned it before when people were saying the 7250 is the same as the 3200. There are plenty of different functions, like the 7250 doesnt have that the 3200 does: XHTML, HSCSD, EDGE, J2ME, WAP 2.0, Tri-band, the ability to send/receive data by IR. It's the technical specifications that nokia upgrade that people seem to give no notice to.
Also, if your thinking that the 7250i is the same as the 3200, the 3200 doesn't cost £200. The 3200 has all the features a 7250i has, even more but it costs less. The 3200 is a budget fone for younger people unlike the 7250i. Once again, people seem to dismiss this. Sometimes its the small things that make a difference but you don't really notice it. |
