Hi,
I have a question;
I have a t68i and I read something in here about software updates and stuff, now, where can I check if new software versions are released ? (is it posted on the sonyericsson site ? ) and do they also mention the improvements of the update ?
if a new update comes out, can I update it myself ? or do I need to go to the shop where I bought it ? (and can he do it ? or will he send the phone back to the factory ? or ?)
Thanks |

Ok
I searched, a lot, and the only thing I found was a host "emma" that seems to be some kind of service page for ericsson phones.
I did not find any reference to SW updates or there versions...so if you know another url please post it here, thanks.
Second, I read that the "service point" should do the upgrades, but what is a service point ? any dealer who sells ericsson and has a pc ? (if the upgrade is performed by the phone, meaning that you just connect the phone to a pc and a binary is copied, why can't we do it ourselves ? If it works that way its just like flashing your burner...or so:)
Thanks |

has no webpage with lists of current sw versions... a servicepoint is a company authorized by to perform service at different leves... the lowest is the flashpoint, they can only perform software upgrades, the middle level can perform smaller repairs, the highest can do all sorts of service down on componentlevel, meaning they have authorization to change soldered components in the phones...
some dealers are also servicepoints, but not all, so theese two should not be mixed up... call your local helpdesk (number can be found on http://www.sonyericsson.com) to get addresses to servicepoints near you. |

aaah , I think I understand. So most likely the guys that are going to do the firmware upgrade are not the ones where I bought it (since its a local shop not only selling GSM's) . But, will my reseller be responsible for letting my phone upgrade (as long as it is in waranty) meaning that he will go to the service point with my phone (if he cant do it himselve) or do I need to take care of it ?
and, how do you guys know when a new software is availalble ? (and what its new functions are) I cant go call my service center every month to ask if a new update has come out....
(btw; why doesnt ericsson post that on their site ? if you pay like 600€ for a phone, the least you can expect is that they share updates with you....) |
