I've made the mistake of buying a 3 pay as you go phone (UK) (they were cheap, well the Motorola A835 house-brick I bought was...) and tried to access wap.esato.com as well as twilightwap.com .

All I got was a message: "Data server not available" Explained this in the shop and got the reason: 3 bar all wapsites apart from their own "Today on 3" service (where everything comes in a video and all videos have to be paid for)

Am I the only one who is completely unable to find any family-friendly words to describe my current thoughts on 3? Would I be unreasonable to want to fire my house-brick up the rear-end of the chief executive of 3 UK and then have them blasted into space? (Am I the last person in the world to find this out?)

Would you go to 3 with their current lockouts?

It makes you wonder if the other four networks (in the UK) will have these type of lockouts on their 3G services (seeing as they don't have them on their 2G WAP services) and how long 3's lockouts will last when the competition finally get round to moving in. I'm already regretting getting my 3 phone because if I knew they had these lockouts I'd have avoided!

Its the latest craze...I wont be going to 3 if its like this because i use a lot of wap/gprs but if i cant go onto any other sites then thats sooooooo crap. Actually i will not mind too much except for the fact that i wont be able to check emails etc. I will download onto my pc and send to the phone if i get one.

i dont see the big networks having that approach,as myself and most GSM users in the market for 3g wont be interested in something that offers less than our current phones/plans

3s service is actually html though. They are allowing wap access later in the year. You get a free email address from 3, which is accessible on today on 3 and via the built in pop/imap client, for free. You can get an a835 unlocked now(not remotely) and use it on o2 wap. Finally, 500 cross network anytime minutes. Thats a good enough reason to own one.
