can anyone suggest what gsm provider i can use in the united states? i am planning to take my t39 there within the year and i don't want to use my home country's international roaming facility. it might be more cheaper just to buy a new sim card there. any suggestions?

thanks!!

where in the united states? anyway, i was roaming with voicestream twice and it's ok, so probably having native voicestream sim will be better. just a thought.

Yes, where in the United States? GSM coverage is not 100% here, but CDMA/TDMA has a hell of a lot more coverage if you plan on traveling across the US.

Ah, go with either Cingular or AT&T. Voicestream will work in San Diego, but there service is not really supported in California and you won't find a VS SIM card anywhere there

delta, what gsm provider do you use over there in s. california, is it reliable. when i was there last year my aunt's analog celphone provider was not that reliable, calls keep getting dropped when in the move, in a car for instance (at&t, i think). anyway, thats why i am planning to use my t39 there.

I am currently using Cingular, which seems to be working fine at the moment.

I don't know about AT&T, but I heard they give better GPRS service.

As for phones cutting off on the drive, I find GSM more prone to this than CDMA/TDMA (<--- This is not Analog) phones in the US. My friends CDMA phone on Verizon has a lot better reception than mines and works pretty much everywhere, where mines would cut off in some certain areas like far away parks and inside buildings.

If you’re staying long, Sprint is rolling out 3G by July 4th on all there phones, which should be interesting.

AT&T GSM is more reliable in San Diego. Mostly full signals with the Ericsson T68 with Cingular it mainly gets 2 bars. L.A. is currently testing and the reception is just as great as San Diego.

power, do you have any idea how much are at&t or cingular subsciption packages or are prepaid sims also prevalent there already? i plan to get a new gsm sim over there. it may be much cheaper than use international roaming.
