BTW - My post in NO way represents the thoughts or feelings of the owners of Esato (little disclamer there )

This will only hurt the companies selling the petrol. But they are not the one causing the price increase, its the taxation on petrol 70%.

Climate Change worse thanWMD?

Climate change is a far bigger threatthan global terrorism, according to TonyBlair's chief scientific advisor, Sir DavidKing.
King has caused a storm with hiscomments, published in a guest editorialin Science magazine in January. He hascriticised the lack of action by the BushAdministration, and clearly labelledExxonMobil (Esso) as a company tryingto undermine the scientific concensus inthe US on climate change.
After his editorial, King led a team of UKscientists visit to the US, where they wentto Seattle and to Washington to talkabout climate change.
"On climate change Britain has nowtaken a leadership position. We areworking very hard with governments inRussia, Australia and the US to push theKyoto agenda. None of these countrieshave signed up and we'd like to getthem signed up," he told the BBC'sRadio 4 "Today" programme.
King has been outspoken about the US'sfailure to sign up to Kyoto.
"As the world's only remainingsuperpower, the United States isaccustomed to leading internationallyco-ordinated action. But at present theUS Government is failing to take up thechallenge of global warming," he toldScience magazine.
"The United States is already in theforefront of the science and technologyof global change, and the next step issurely to tackle emissions control too.We can only overcome this challengeby facing it together, shoulder toshoulder. We in the rest of the world arenow looking to the U.S.A. to play itsleading part."
"Delaying action for decades, or evenjust years, is not a serious option. I amfirmly convinced that if we do not beginnow, more substantial, more disruptive, and more expensive change will beneeded later on. We need early,well-planned action, for example, toallow businesses to plan to act in thecourse of normal capital replacementcycles and to encourage thedevelopment of new energytechnologies."
In evidence on March 10 to a UK Houseof Lords committee he accusedExxonMobil (Esso) of funding lobbyistswho are trying to undermine theconsensus on global warming bysuggesting that scientists are divided onthe nature of the problem.
"This is the biggest issue for us toface this century.
It's manmade. The science is done. It'scomplete. It's a matter of politicalunderstanding. I personally have littledoubt that unfortunately, as time moveson, the global warming events such asthe very high temperatures in Europeover the past summer and the floodingtwo years before will occur morefrequently, and the understanding ofwhat's driving these will become moreapparent."
Sir David is not the only one to compareglobal warming to WMD. He follows theformer UN arms inspector Hans Blix, andSir John Houghton, the former co-chairof the Intergovernmental Panel onClimate Change's scientific assessment, who have both made similar statements.
Climate Science Update

February 16: In the US, scientists fromthe US Energy Department's PacificNorthwest Laboratory warn that globalwarming will diminish the amount ofwater stored as snow in the WesternUnited States by up to 70 percent in thecoastal mountains over the next 50years. And that, they say, is the "bestcase" scenario.
March 3: The world's second-largestreinsurer, Swiss Re, warned onWednesday that the costs of naturaldisasters, aggravated by global warming, threatened to spiral out of control, forcing the human race into acatastrophe of its own making.
March 05: The University of Bernreports that last summer was the hottestin 500 years.

It's all a nice idea, but in the real world it doesn't work.

That email was going round last year (or was it the year before?) and it didn't work then, so cant see it working this year

when you're driving on the highway on gasfumes rather than the last drop... you will stop and fill it up at the next gas station you see. No matter what brand.

It's THAT simple.

"trying to undermine the consensus on global warming by suggesting that scientists are divided on the nature of the problem."

any consensus on global warming is based on politics and popular opinion. there is growing dissent in the scientific community about the extent of global warming to date and it's true cause (whether it be man made or natural), and whether the Kyoto Accord is in fact worth the paper it's written on. personally i'm open to being convinced either way, but i'm not going to going to form an opinoin without listening to both sides. i'm certainly all for minimizing pollutants and guarding against potential environmental disaster, but greenpeace isn't exactly the most reliable source for factual information and rational debate.

being pro-environement is politically fashionable, which is not to say it's bad but it should not be mutually exclusive from pro-truth.

even if we would NOT let out any gasses, our biggest rain forest holds enough co2 to continue our global warming at the same rate.

not to say our fumes are good, they're obviously not. however nature itself can harm us just the same
