At&t + t68 + Palm 515 w/ Bluetooth sd = screwed? |

So, I have been trying (with no avail) to use WAP via Bluetooth over AT&T with my Palm m515. I have called into AT&T and was basically told to forget it. They don't support it.
Well, I know it will work. Using a variety of "vanilla" connection settings gathered from the net, I have been able to make the GSM/GPRS connection. DNS servers are populated into the settings, and I get a local IP and gateway IP (they are the same). Has anyone had success in hacking through this? Help!
Many Thanks,

Ok, I love you man, but that is such a non-answer. "Oh yea, the palm is crap." That's obviously not the problem here. |

Anything. AT&T will totally NOT support the Palm right now. I'll take what I can get. The frustrating thing is that the functionality is THERE. I can get from the Palm to an AT&T server. I get an IP address. There's just some crucial settings that are missing. I could just vomit.

Update: I kept calling into tech support today talking to people and collecting information. AT&T's implementation of WAP/GPRS will require proprietary AT&T software to function on any device. The Palm handheld is not supported because they have not written the custom software for it.
Additionally, unified messaging (e-mail within the messaging menu, outside of MMode) has only been rolled out in Seattle, with considerable issues to overcome. So, that should be coming to US users within the forseeable future.
Welcome to a huge step backwards for 3G in the US. |

@BleuTango, it seems to me that AT&T is blocking everything. yes, you get an IP and you're "in" their system, but that's it. They're probably setting up a portal like DoCoMo and only those WAP sites registered in the portal can be accessed. In contrast, my operator gives us a choice, the first APN (CID=1) is for WAP only, while the second APN (CID=2) is for full internet access, and i only have to instruct the phone to dial the second CID using *99***2# and i'm away.
i feel so sorry for what you've been going through... |

Actually it seems to be more of a proxy than a portal. I browsed to a website that I own (non-WAP) on the T68, and the requests showed up on the server logs. AT&T's issue is totally within their network. It's just infuriating that AT&T has taken a technology that the rest of the world has been able to implement, and they've hosed it up by adding BS to it. It's incredible.
I'm still working on hacking the GPRS connection, but I don't have a lot of hope. Hmmm, I wonder if attwssucks.com is available... |

Cingular is the same way. I cannot use my IPAQ via bluetooth to surf the web. I have to log in via GSM to my local provider for it to work.
I heard they will implement the use of this feature in August, but I can’t be positive. I know for sure that AT&T and Voicestream allow this to work in Portland Oregon, because I’ve tried it and works fine there.

I was able to connect my palm III to my T68 with the irda connection, and I use ATTWS from Chicago. When they were communicating via a wap connection any internet application i downloaded for the palm was able to run.
Here's the details:
Palm- Prefrences-> Conection -> New
1)name it AT&T or something.
2)select your connection method as IrCOMM to Modem
3)hit details
a) speed: 115,200bps
b) flow ctrl: off
c) init string: at+cgdcont=1,"ip","AWS DATA";^sgauth=1
d) hit ok, then ok again
4) change the top right from connection to network.
5) Menu->new
a) rename the service to AT&T
b) username: (your 10 digit phone number)
c) password: user123
d) connection: AT&T or whatever you named it in step 1
e) Phone: *99***2#
6) point your palm's IR port at the phone's IR port.
Phone- set it to recieve IR.
7) Press connect on your palm
If all went well you're phone should say connecting and give your palm an IP address. You can check to see if it did by hitting menu on the plam-->Options-->vew log
Hope this helps someone out. If anyone is able to get the SIM lock off one of these phones now that would reallly be something!
