Hello everyone!

I would like to know if someone has some experience from using the 3G phone Nec e616 as a MP3-player? Because here in Sweden "3" has a veeery good offer now and I'm thinking of buying a Nec e616, and since e616 supports MS Duo cards and I have a card from my SE P800 I would like use the e616 as a MP3-player. How does the changing track and volume buttons work? Do you have to open the whole phone to change the track or volume or is it possible to do with some external buttons?

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea about it's capability as an MP3 player but I don't think it will support MS Duos. I'm not sure if it has any external memory support but if it does I reckon it won't be Sony's MemoryStick®

Also remember it's battery life is really bad as a phone so it'll have no chance as an MP3 player!

I don't think u'd be able to control anything with the phone closed either.

Don't quote me on any of this as I'm not sure but it's just what I thought so I may be wrong

It does support mem duo. I just ordered the lower e313 model. So I will see what it is like. Should be delivered in a week or 2.

Thank you very much for the answer! The Nec e616 does actually support MS Duo cards so theres no problem with that, but your point with the really bad batterylife was very good!

I'm surprised if it can use Sony's MS Duo, I would have thought it'd be SD Memory Cards or something like that

Well, I have an mp3 file on my Motorola A835, but then I am on 3 UK which is slightly different. Also had to transfer it from my PC (for reasons stated in another thread) maybe 3 Sweden are banning the downloading of mp3 files (that's if they don't have the walled garden approach like we do in the UK at the moment)

Why would 3 suddenly ban MP3 files and how come only in Sweden. That doesnt sound so realistic to me. And how would the by able to ban it?

ive got the 313... mp3 downloads banned... im on 3 in denmark..
Dont think the battery is that bad on mine... actually 313 and 616 is the same phone.. they are just slightly different
u control the mp3 player with the 5way rocker key:
up/down: volume
left/right: shift track/fwd/rw
enter: play/pause
u can minimize any program on the nec by pressing and holding down the menu key. u can then choose between the different progams that u are running, like in windows (alt+tab), works great

dont expect to much if u want to use midifiles as ringtones.. sounds very poor, ecxept for the preinstalled ones... 3 has limited the phone alot; can“t buy ringtones an so on by sending an sms, can“t visit alot of homepages.. the UI sucks, and screen is impossible to read in sunlight.... stereoheadset + ms NOT included. anyway, writing sms is lightning fast and esay, and the phone is very stable...

Sound levels can be changed by buttons on side of phone. You must buy or make stereo headphones for phone as it takes a 2.5mm socket and the second ring around connection is for the mic. Tried using a jack 3.5-2.5 convertor but only came out in mono on headphone, so its £15 for 3 or NEC headphones I'm afraid. Phone takes max 128mb sony duo ms. Ringtones are a plenty for free on net. Download to PC then use your usb cable and software that came with phone and send to phone, easy. Use WMA instead of MP3 to get smaller files as phone will only play music files upto about 5-6mb.
Video files must be 25fps before converting to MP4 or phone will not play. Send to memory card using card reader not via phone I've played video files 50mb+. Get software updated to latest version and battery lasts longer. Hopes this helps guys.

i too am enquiring into the nec e616.
it does seem to be a good phone, and i am nearly sold on buying one myself! but am still hesitant at this stage.... all i need to figure out is if i am going to be able to navigate my way around the handset, as the guys in the 3 shop...well, im not 2 sure if they're going 2 b able to help me out so much. if the capability to use the phone as an mp3 player is possible; well, im sold. but i did read something on not being able to save across to the memory stick; and my version of the phone doesnt come with any software.....
so; who knows!
but thnx 4 the info. all the same!

just a quick point if you are thinking of using the same msd card for both phones, THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE. For your nec phone to be able to read any files on it it has to be formatted by the nec phone, which will obviously erase all the data and make it unusable on your p800. [addsig]
