For wappers,

ntl to increase broadband speeds

11:21 BST, Monday 26th April 2004 -- by Darren Shelley

ntl today announced plans to increase the downstream speed of its broadband internet services at no extra charge following Telewest's decision to up its broadband internet downstream speeds.

The 150kbps service will become 300kbps downstream, the 600kbps will go up to 750kbps downstream and the 1Mbps will become 1.5Mbps downstream.

Communication will be sent to customers in advance of the speed increase.

The cable operator's CEO, Simon Duffy, said about the news: “Our enhancement of the broadband product range is focused on customer needs. Our customers want more speed, better email access and more newsgroups to enjoy, and that’s what we’re delivering.”

Blueyonder confirms 50% speed increase
00:18 BST, Monday 26th April 2004 -- by James Welsh

Telewest's ISP, Blueyonder, has confirmed that by the end of May, customers subscribing to its 512kbps, 1Mbps and 2Mbps will receive a 50% downstream speed increase at no extra charge.

The 512kbps service will become 768kbps downstream, the 1Mbps service tier will go to 1.5Mbps (for customers using a standalone cable modem only - "technical issues" prevent set-top-box customers from receiving the upgrade, according to Telewest), and the 2Mbps service will become 3Mbps downstream.

Upstream speeds and the 256kbps entry-level downstream service are unaffected by the changes.

The speed upgrade will be gradually rolled out across Telewest's service area, with details being posted to a rollout page as they become available.

News about the upgrade first broke right here on the Digital Spy forums, where discussion about the service upgrades continues.

Excellent news if your with one of these

it's the upload speed that needs changing though. having a 750k downstream is all fine and dandy, but 128k upload is a JOKE!
