Motorola and WorldGate Communications, Inc. announced an exclusive multi-year agreement for the worldwide development and distribution of the Ojo personal video phone. The announcement was made at the NCTA 2004 trade show, where the Ojo product is being demonstrated by Motorola and WorldGate both.
Under the terms of the agreement, Motorola will market the Ojo personal video phone as part of its “connected home” portfolio of consumer broadband solutions. Motorola will distribute Ojo worldwide through broadband service providers, retailers, and distributors of telecommunications products. The Motorola Ojo personal video phone is expected to be available to consumers and businesses in the fall of this year. Additionally, Motorola and WorldGate will jointly develop future broadband video telephony solutions. The agreement includes a prepayment by Motorola against future product purchases.

Motorola has finally started selling their Ojo Personal Video Phone. The phone is available through Motorola’s Ojo site for $800.

In addition to the price of the unit you also need to have a broadband connection such as DSL or cable PLUS pay a monthly fee of around $15 for the video call service.

The Ojo allows you to make real-time video calls to your friends and family using your internet connection. The technology behind the device is pretty interesting; the unit is capable of 30 frames-per-second video with synchronized audio at data rates as low as 100 Kbps. It uses MPEG-4 coding standard (H.264) and is designed to work within the upstream data rates with your everyday DSL or cable connection.

do you want my personal though friendly opinion or my personal not so friendly opinion?

friendly: I've seen things that are prettier than this.
unfriendly: rarely I've seen anything so ugly.

just personal thought about how it looks...
Everything was ugly, but your beautiful face.

Your personal opinion is very welcome friendly or unfriendly,As long as you are not rude.

I agree its not the most beautiful object in the world but it ain't that bad for a videophone.

yes... you are right. I've seen a video telephone that also works with landline, but you can also make video call to an umts phone and from umts phone to that landline contected videophone. It looked like a nice pictureframe and it also holds an sd card for viewing pictures if you don't use the phone... I can't remember where I saw it...
