Today’s mobile phones are evolving into complete multimedia devices where voice capabilities are just one of many different features. From high-resolution digital photography to full-motion video and interactive games, mobile phones are now used for a myriad of multimedia applications. The NVIDIA® GoForce™ 4000 media processors deliver megapixel digital photo resolution, full motion video playback and capture, richer graphics, better display quality, and longer battery life for the most advanced, multimedia-rich mobile phones.

The GoForce 4000 offers a host of advanced features for mobile phones, including support for three megapixel image capture, high-quality 30 frames per second video capture and playback, accelerated graphics for gaming, video conferencing, and NVIDIA nPower technology that enables all these multimedia features while optimizing performance and minimizing the impact on battery life.

3 Megapixel Camera Support
High-resolution camera support makes it possible to capture photographic quality images with your mobile phone that can be printed in the standard 8 x 10 inch size.

8x Digital Zoom
High-quality digital zoom allows users to get close-up photos, and brings camera phones up to par with standalone digital cameras. When paired with a high-resolution camera, this feature allows you to “zoom in” on an object while maintaining high image quality.

MPEG-4 and H.263 Codec
Enables full motion video record (encode) and playback (decode) on your mobile phone, including video-on-demand, camcorder capabilities, streaming video playback, and video conference calling. Dedicated hardware filters offer high quality playback of this video content.

Yeh I agree with Spike. I don't know how they'll do it (And I'm sure the manufacturers aren't really sure either yet) but given time somehow they'll fit all the electronics/moving parts into the phone.

Maybe they'll end up making a virtual eye which "sees" and translates that back to a digital image... who knows But anything can (and probably will) happen given enough time

I have heard that SONY have created a pair of glasses that can see through clothes.

If that is true, it will be an incredible break through in technology.

Imagine what u can do with a pair of see-thru gigs

they'll most liekly use these: http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fiction-News.asp?NewsNum=49

phillips liquid lens for optical zoom. it has no mechanical parts to extend a lens, instead the lens is filled with a liquid that gets certain shape/firmness when it is shocked to with very very small voltages. so depending on the voltage input, depends on how hard the liquid is and thus how it focuses! very cool.

It's important that people realise, this isn't a 3 Megapixel camera phone. Phones with 2 Megapixel cameras have just been released by DoCoMo in Japan. This is only a graphics processor designed for mobiles which will enable taking pictures when 3 megapixel camera phones are released.

Optical zoom doesn't have to mean that there has to come a 5cm long lense out of the phone. Check this camera out:

Minolta X20

"The secret to the DiMAGE X20's compact design is its internally-mounted lens, which stretches vertically up the side of the camera rather than protruding from the camera's front. An internal prism reflects light from the subject down into the lens itself, almost like a periscope. The internal lens mounting also means that there's no wait for the lens barrel to extend when you power up the camera, making startup times very quick."

Just to clarify something about this post... This is not a mobile phone released by Nvidia as the thread name would seem to suggest, but rather a new processor created by Nvidia specifically for mobile phones. The picture attached above is most likely a mock up made by Nvidia for the site just to show an example, but not a real phone that will ever see the light of day.

I would like to see a mobile with the processor built in though, imagine the games you could play on an Nvidia processor!!
