People rely more and more on handheld devices, like mobile phones and PDAs, for organizing data, such as email, inputting contact information, scheduling, etc. However most products are not designed very well for inputting text and have keypad layouts that are usually awkward or have an overwhelming amount of buttons.
For example, Mobile phone keypads, with the standard 12-keypad, are of course ideal to key in phone numbers, but can be complicated and time consuming to key in even the simplest sentence. In order to type in the letter "S" you have to press the same key at least 4 times. Portable devices with mini keyboards provide a miniaturized version of a standard keyboard layout, (originally designed for typing with two hands) but for a handheld device, they tend to be bigger and have too many buttons that are really small. Plus the sight of a cluster of tiny buttons can be intimidating. Other PDA's with text recognition software such as, Graffiti by Palm requires you to use two hands with a Stylus and also practice a new way of writing.
Introducing QuicKey, a new & quick "touch-sensitive" text inputting device for small mobile devices that’s easy to use. It’s a small, one hand operated device, with just 4 touch-sensitive bars, (a combination of touch pad and physical button) that are elegantly designed to speed up text inputting. As you slide your thumb over the touch-sensitive bars, a character preview of the letter is highlighted on the screen above a red cursor so you can quickly identify the letter you are touching without having to take the time to look down at the keypad. This feature helps with blind-touching. The character preview changes simultaneously as you make a selection and slide your thumb over the bar. Once a preview of the desired letter appears above the red cursor, press down to enter the letter. The 4 horizontal bars contain all 26 letters divided alphabetically: A — G , H — N , O — U , V — Z , . Useful punctuation marks such as the coma and period are conveniently located after Z.
QuicKey's simple and clean design is appealing to those intimidated by "techy" devices that have clusters of tiny buttons. As a mobile phone, the numbers are arranged in the standard order and can be keyed in as usual. This can be done with or without the spring release "pop-up" display.
QuicKey is designed to help you speed through inputting contact information, writing emails, and simply just staying connected throughout your busy day.
