At the moment, your phone can only be used with a T-Mobile SIM card. Unlocking is the process of 'altering' the phone so that it can be used with any mobile providers SIM card, not just T-Mobile.

Unlocking usually involves connecting the phone to a PC via a cable and using specialist software to identify and transfer 'unlocking codes' over to the phone (very basic description there!)

You can buy unlocking kits from various sources, but in the UK at least, most mobile phone shops are able to unlock your phone for you for a moderate fee. In the UK, it's usually around £10.

It might be worth ringing T-Mobile and asking them for the Unlocking codes, though. The T610 allows you to enter them directly into the phone itself, so IF (and it's a big IF!) they do give you the codes, you can unlock it yourself without paying a penny
