I just read this on news.com.au
Dialling F for phone flirting
If your potential partner for life walks past you in the street, it might be your mobile phone that makes the first move.
Phone-assisted dating could be the next big thing on the singles market.
US programmers have devised a system that allows two phones that detect their owners have similar interests, to communicate.
Potential daters subscribe to the phone service, which stores a personal profile and information on what they want in a partner.
If two people with enough similarities pass, the program tells the phones to communicate.
The system uses Bluetooth technology, which is already built into many mobile phones and electronic devices. It allows two devices to make contact within a 10m radius.
The program, called Serendipity, would tell phones to scan for nearby Bluetooth signals every 30 seconds.
If it finds one connected to the program, it tells the database via the internet which phone it has found and if their owners match the phones communicate.
According to New Scientist, users could decide if they just want to send their signal to people who are friends of friends, to avoid encounters with strangers.

what ever happened to personal contact? First impression? Make eye contact?
I can just see it now... I switch my on, I walk through the city center... the man of my life passes by but I don't see him ( ), luckily my phone is there to alert me to that fact... so I can send a message like 'hey I'm the blond standing on the corner in the blue jacket... wanna go for a drink sometime?'
And then wait to see who's coming towards you.....
Don't think this kind of service is for me really
Can't say I believe in any form of computerized match-making

Wow, I can't wait until someone develops a mobile phone technology to also help me pick my food, drink, friends and life...
Imagine, then we could all be walking around in a coma, knowing that a singal from our trusty phone would always alerts us if we are about to miss something the phone consideres important!

you wouldn't have to walk around at all... you can have everything delivered to your chair/couch/bed from food, news, games, sports, to 'my friends' (where did I hear that terminology before.. ) in short complete life

Hopefully in the next future i can make some calls on my fone too. Such technologies are so stupid... However, the most sad is, that ppl get paid for developing such crap...

Looks like @vlammetje - is an all-time fave lady here? I haven't heard from other 'active' lady members here at esato aside from @missuk and the aforementioned gal above?
Maybe in the very near future that technology/invention or what have you, will be perfected to the extent that the dating method itself will be a 'fail-safe' scenario. A tie-up with famous dating sites will be just great, say, like ICQ.com and Javalife.com ! |
