Will Sony Ericsson T616 work in India Delhi/Chennai) |

I just bought a Sony Ercisson T616 and am wondering if it will work in India. I travel to India very frequently and bought this handset for the same reason. But after buying it I realized that T616 is 850/1800/1900 whereas T610 is 900/1800/1900. Does that affect the working of T616 in India. What all providers can I make it work with in India. I hope it will work with all of them (like Airtel in Delhi, or Hutch in Chennai).
Thanks,

Should work since it's tri band.

Just cause it's tri-band doesn't mean it'll work. If you're in a place that uses the 900 exclusively, then you're kind of screwed with the T616.

India Mostely uses 900 frequency, 1800 some places. 850 almost not at all. 850/1800/1900 will not work in most of India ( I know of Delhi for sure) where as 900/1800/1900 will work almost all of India. |

I think i had replied to this in another forum. Anyway, it will work with airtel coz it operates on gsm1800. If u r on a contract, u will have to unlock ur phone.

I was under the impression only Hutch uses 1800 and the rest of the providers use 900mhz.
@gforce
does airtel use 1800 only in Delhi?

Hello, I also own a Sony T616 which I brought from north america. I recently moved to Delhi.
-Does anybody know a good place in Delhi to get my T616 unlocked? Is the process safe? Is there any risk to the phone?
-Also, after my phone is unlocked, will I be able to use it again in Canada? I don't entirely understand the unlocking process..

In that case, would anybody happen to know of a reliable shop in Delhi that works in cell-phone repair/electronics? I imagine such a place would know how to unlock a cellphone.

I will be travelling to Chennai soon. I got an T616 by signing up with attws. If I need to use a HUTCH SIM card, would I have to unlock T616?
Also I realized that attws has these Roaming aggrements with HUTCH, since my spouse is also using the same phone in India, is using the HUTCH network. If the phone is capable of switching to the GSM HUTCH network, does this mean that I can replace the ATT WS sim card with that of HUTCH?
Thanks in advance.
