AT&T Wireless enables its 22 million customers in the US to exchange text messages to more than 263 million mobile phone users in Europe. The company has agreed deals with 71 mobile operators in 25 European countries, including Vodafone, Orange, mmO2, and T-Mobile. AT&T Wireless claims that the move is the most aggressive effort to offer trans-Atlantic mobile texting services to date. The company will charge users USD 0.25 (EUR 0.21) for each trans-Atlantic messages, compared to USD 0.10 charged for each national message. According to KRC Research, some 66 percent of text messaging users in the UK are under the false impression that they can send messages to the US. ( www.telecom.paper.nl )
