Hey Guys, I have a few question that I hope someone out there will be able to answer.

You see, in my country, GPRS connection is still free at the moment and I was wondering If I can use it to access the internet thru my phone's modem using a data cable.

I don't know if I still have to make a new dial up network using the GPRS settings in my phone. If so can somebody tell me how ( sorry but can you make it step by step I'm a little ignorant in computers and the likes. I have both T68 and T39 which I expect to use via cable ( no IR port in pc ) and surf the net by the phones modem via GPRS. end result is to free up my external modem, my ISP acct. and make use of the at the moment free GPRS access.

Thanks and any advise will be highly appreciated.

Randy,

You need to ask Globe for more details. For Smart, they require another GPRS data account called "internet" (the APN) and your T39 modem will have to be configured with AT+cdgcont=1,ip,"internet",,0,0 and your dialup networking configured with some other stuff with the number to call as *99***1#. I am able to connect now but the problem is I can't access external sites, I'm stuck with the internal web servers. I am coordinating with Smart now.

Hey arnold, I already configured my dial up to Globe's GPRS since I used one of my palm pilot setting ( courtesy of Mapalad.com)I was wondering since this GPRS access is still free, I can surf the net using my phone's modem with GPRS access via Globe free (?), this is by the way doing it thru my desktop, without incurring any hidden charges??? If this is so I will surf until I drop! Please advise me naman of what you think or opinion. Thanks a lot

PS. using this GPRS I was able to view all the website I go thru without the hassle of dial up.

Randy, you are right.

Gooms, here's the Smart GPRS settings: http://www.smart.com.ph/vas/advance/gprsconfig.htm

There seems to be two errors here 1) Modem Settings should be AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" and 2) *99***2# (2 is the CID, if CID is different must be changed)

Unfortunately, Smart's GPRS only works with WAP right now. I still can't get Surfing and POP3/SMTP working. Ans yes, still free.
