T-Mobile Contract question, What to do? |

Well to make a long story short, my cell phone has been stolen. My contract ends on March 11th. I've suspended my account with T-Mobile and don't know really what to do. I just have a couple of questions.
1) Can I renew w/ T-Mobile, going thru like Amazon.com and get a new phone I want (with good rebates), but keeping the same number?
2) Do I have go to thru T-mobile, get lame phone since I'm not a "new customer activation"?
T-Mobile has been good to me, so I'd like to stay, but I don't wanna lame phone since there arn't many good rebates at the stores locally.
I'd email Amazon.com about renewals, but they don't have an address. Any info would help. Thanks!!!!!

Call Customer Care and ask for the retention department. I had a 2-hour conversation with them once but finally got a T610 for $99! (This was back when they were going for $300 and 400 retail!)
If not, cancel the service and take your phone number with you. (I assume you can Port your number FROM T-Mobile TO T-Mobile - that shouldn't be too hard.)

If you don't mind getting a new number I would just get a new contract through Amazon and get paid to get a T610. That's what I did when I moved but with another phone.

That is a very unfortunate situation, but I think there is some hope for you (at a price, though). You will not be able to port your number from T-Mobile to T-Mobile; moreover, you will not be able to cancel your existing service and then activate a new one, because your account remains dormant for 90 days after deactivation. It means that when you apply for a new account, the system will automatically "recognize" and re-activate your old account.
The way around it is to activate a new service and THEN cancel the existing one. The best way to do it is through one of the independent retailers, otherwise do it through Amazon. NOTE: If you do it through Amazon, you're running the risk of forfeiting the rebate after T-Mobile finds out you're the old/new customer.
Of course, you will have to change your number. Is it worth it? It depends. If your number is precious to you, I am sure you can get a T610 for about $99 from their retention dept. (they also offered me a Nokia 6610 for only $18!, which I politely declined). Otherwise, go to an independent retailer, get a T610 for free and pocket $100-150 in rebates (that's what I did).
Good luck! |
