It was ca 2 years ago when father asked me 4 a fone. I presented him only alternative, /// . I teached him on my 388 making calls, sending sms. Since that time he reached d next level in practice, so i gave him d A1018 as reward. He is getting better, soon he ll get d r320. How was it in ur family? Was it easy or hard 2 teach ur mom or dad?

My mom got a T610. She handled her old nokia quite well, but I think the T610 is a bit advanced for her... She still sends SMS and MMS and stuff, but right now I'm instructing her over MSN messenger on how to email pictures to herself

I asked my parents couple of times why dont they use mobile phones, they answered that they dont need them right now. I guess when they feel the need they will buy them a cellular :-l

I taught both my parents, and they learnt pretty fast. They were both using Motorolas and both had the same problem: They could not erase SMS, so the phone would get full. So each time I go visit them, they both ask me to empty their phones memory.
But...
Mom asks me not to tell Dad she can't do it...
and Dad asks me not to tell Mom he can't!

i got my father a nokia 3650. he LOVES it. yea its a nokia, but its symbian. he takes pictures and uploads them to his PC via a bluetooth dongle i set up for him. he checks his POP3 for his business with the nice built-in email client, and has the unlimited GPRS on t-mobile so he listens to serbian internet radio the whole day. drains battery like crazy, but he's just got it hooked to a charger, really enjoys it since he can listen to serbian music, hear our news and football games and all that.

i got a my mother a siemens c56 (american version of c55). she likes it a lot because it is small. all she can do is call and send some SMSs. she asks me each time how to add a new contact to her phonebook!

going even furth...i just sent my grandmother (who lives in yugoslavia) a t68! she loves it a lot. i printed out a manual in serbian and flashed with R8A that has serbian language o it so she can understand the phone. i put some pictures of us on it so now she's able to change the wallpaper when she wants, make calls, and send SMS to us here in the US. she's old but still learns much better than my mother!

Gosh, wish I was that lucky. Luckily, I taught my wife how to use T9. Took a while there. However, my dad literally uses his phone as a phone. He doesn't know how to send text messages or anything else cool like that. His phonebook, last I checked was empty. Geez!

As for my mother, she isn't gonna get a cellphone until the prices drop, she says. Oh well, at least I know how to use a cellphone to the best of its ability!!!

got my wife a Samsung R225 and not only did she never learn to text message, she can't even figure out how to access the sms messages that tell her she has voicemail or to dial into her voicemail to listen to them!

on the other hand, our 12 year old borrows the phone and messages his friend via AIM.

i made 100% my girlfriend knew how to use the phone i got her. i gave her a nokia 6200 for her birthday that she likes a lot. she likes to look classy and its an elegant phone. at the same time, she is rather clumsy and needs it to be durable. but she can now send SMS, browse GPRS, and we even send each other contact over IR, i'm so proud!

Dad is getting there.... purchased an i-mode phone last month and now knows how to email himself pictures and such.... starting to get around wapping... he'll be alright

My mother on the other hand still clings to het very first phone, an old Philips brick

The battery died last year and she'd hunted down another one of them batteries (a discontinued model ) because there is no way she'd part with that phone... because..... 'I know how to use this one and I'll never get the hang of another phone anyway'

Then again... all she ever does is texting and calling... so she doesn't need another phone anyway

nice!!!!

glad to know that the 'older' generation can handle mobile devices pretty well......presented my dad with a nokia 8210 early last year....had to somewat force it on him....i'm paying for the line just so he has no excuse not to take it......he's finally getting the hang of it specially so with the sms feature......but he still prefers to use the pc for surfing etc so i'm in no real hurry to get him a wap enabled/colour phone......he did mention that poly tones does sound nicer on the models compared to the nokia ones that his mates haf......he's been tinkering with my old t68i and t610 at every opportunity......i think he's ready for which will be wat i'm plannin to upgrade him to come his next b-day.......

mom on the other hand refuses to haf a handphone
