I just saw a new type of board (kinda, but not really)
it's phpBB...I mean I've seen them before but I never knew what they were like until I decided to see what kind of board this was...
a phpBB, so I thought I'd check it out...their pretty nice, and it seems otgher forums I've used use phpBB...wow easto forums is really disguised with this skin!

But anyways, the point is I looked at the way that the board uses a database....just like an Invision Power Board, only different variable names! I was thinking maybe I could try to make my IPB WAP Script for phpBB froums too...
I just wanted to know if anyone would use it?

Would it even be worth my effort, the owner of this board probably has made thier own that they could distribute...
Or are there already some in existance?

so, can the creators of this phpbb-mod share their experience with us?

that is can you help us create mobile forums like this one?

i have managed to find the intial script on the phpbb mother board, but that is just a WAP/WML version, no html light. I am more interested in how the html light works, and how does it recognize that by K700i knows cHTML ?

thanks.

ah, forgot to say, the site where I got my phpbb WAP mod is http://www.plus-media.co.uk nice site, but currently unsupported by its author (i've just talked with him).

I installed this mod on my board, and by removing the striptags commands I can now display pictures and links on my phone.

however, if the picture is too large (happens a lot on my phpbb board) the k700 browser doesn't let me scroll right, I can only scroll up or down.

I have seen that on the light version of esato, I can sometimes scroll right. How can I do that?

[later edit: image scrolling doesn't work, however, if an image is inserted with the [ img ] tag, there should be a way to make the browser scroll for it, right ?]

Ok, this script is complete and you can get it at my site, the only thing is I never got to phpBB!

It only works with IPB, well...I am working on a new forums script that will totaly replace an IPB, phpBB, or vBulletin...let me explain...

My new script called cForums will support IPB, phpBB, and vBulletin databases and will also support WML, xHTML, and HTML!

It's all in the skins, I'm creating my own language for the dynamic content on the skins, allowing the skins to be made in an HTML editor such as frontpage!!! Also, the new skinning engine gives the skins full control over the display, options you could only dream of having in IPB, phpBB, or vBulletin!

So far, I'm about %25-%50 done, I'm really not sure as it is too early in the project to tell...

ok I found a way to make the browser on k700i scroll the damn picture for me.

I include the picture in a table with only 1 cell (with border 0 for the nice view of it) and add a space in the end of the cell. The stupid browser will let me see the space, it not knowing that in fact my evil purpose is to see the picture

However, I still do not know how to recognize if the user accesing the forum uses a mobile, and if it does, if it supports HTML (as I am asked when using my k700 to browse esato).

Could you help me, dear admin? Thanks.

To recognise the browser you'd have to grab http_user_agent and compare that to known mobile browsers.. i suspect anyway. Can't see another way around it
Access the forum with a mobile phone via esato.mobi
