ebay link auctions - has anyone actually bought one? |

I've seen various threads about these auctions on ebay where people are just selling links to information where you can allegedly buy expensive things at ridiculously cheap prices. But what I'd like to know is has anyone actually bought one of these links? What happened? Did you get this 'information?' Was it any use?

the 'link' you get (and some pay for) is a link to a site like www.twentyphones.com or www.themobilematrix.com
wether or not one ever gets a phone out of this is subject of dicussion... i for one have never come across an individual who had gotten a phone from such a scheme. They are not technically scams though, it is all a matter of reading the fine print and understanding that what you buy is not a phone, neither from the auction nor from the site. the phone is a 'gift' to be handed out at the discretion of the site's owner and can be revoked/cancelled/amended at any given moment.
Plenty of ppl seem to think they will undoubtedly get a phone. I am a cynic so i don't believe it, however I have a bet running against a colleague who truly believes that by the end of May 2004 we will both have a phone for the nice sum of EURO 39.00
So we did in fact sign up (on www.twentyphones.com) late December and so far.... it looks like I will be the winner

Ebay will not do anything, because all auctions advertise links and sell links.
Whether or not ppl decide to donate money to the site they receive a link to is not Ebay's concern.
A little common sense should be expected from everybody with a credit card in their hands and internet access.
In any case it's not Ebay's problem as on Ebay itself nothing against the rules is 'technically' being done.

Just looked at those sites and one has loads of testimonials from happy 'customers' who say that they received their phones with no problem at all.
Hmmm still not my idea of fun thanks...

I honestly cannot be bothered. Let those ppl have their excitement, followed by disappointment, followed by resentment. It's really not worth getting wound up aboout.
