Vodafone is definitely the biggest but I suppose Hutchison/Orange is the best.

Vodafone, which is valued at around $180 billion, is the world's largest mobile phone company in terms of revenues and market capitalization. Its number of subscribers is topped only by China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd.

In the US:
1) Verizon (non-GSM)
2) Cingular (mixed, even after Cingular acquired ATT WS, I believe it remains the second).
3) ATT WS (mixed)
An interesting remark re. Vodafone: they could not afford to buy ATT despite their size. However, they own about 45% of Verizon. go figure.
Hence you have to refine your question: largest in terms of numbers of customers, market validation, markets covered...?
As for the info on Verizon:

And Cingular:

And ATT (that incorrectly claims ATT to be the second largest and the first one to introduce the GSM/GPRS to US):

I believe Sprint is No. 4, but no data at hand.
Nextel appears to be No. 5:

That leaves us with T-Mobile, the youngest and only pure-GSM provider, closing the gap with over 12 million customers. In that sense, T-Mobile could well be the largest GSM provider in the US.

With Cingular's gms 850 conversion project, gives Cingular the largest GSM coverage in the US, especially since it will give people coverage in more remote areas. With the acquisition of ATT, Cingular will be #1 with customers, and have the most digital coverage of any carrier. |
