T68m Failure to receive calls or SMS. |

Hi
My T68m regularly fails to register itself with the VF network after a period of inactivity (i.e. no incoming/outgoing calls or SMS). All calls to the phone are directed to voicemail. The phone appears normal in all respects with full signal strength and the cell site name displayed, however until I make a phone call or send an SMS, no calls will be received. Setting the Preferred Options to GSM Only will clear the fault and from then on the T68m behaves normally but as soon as GPRS and GSM are selected in Data Comm|Preferred Options the fault will reappear eventually. It is a hard fault to spot but the tell tale sign is a bunch of delayed Voicemail notification (or other) SMS messages appearing just after you have made a call (making the call clears the fault).
I am trying to discover if the fault is in the T68m or the Network. Has anone else noticed this behavior on their T68m - if so on which network?
Cheers Mike

which software version do u have in your T68m?
the problem with the GPRS service is one of the most common faults on T68m. has not yet come up with a complete solution to this problem, they are very quite about this as well. Here in Sweden they have only said "it's a problem with one operator in the area of Stockholm"... that's a lot of ¤&/#%&¤%¤ since it has nothing (or very little) to do with the operator...
btw... Welcome to Esato!

Hi Cytech and thanks for your welcome to the group.
My T68m is on R2D005. I upgraded this week to see if that resolved the problem. But it did not. Clearly the problem is related to the phone and that way it handles the GPRS component of the network connection and it appears to be more widespread that what /// have indicated.
In New Zealand there has not been many fault calls lodged with either the single GSM service provider here (i.e. V/Fone) or with Ericsson so they are not really taking this fault seriously yet. But it is going to become a biggie soon...

think that the answer on the question "Is there a problem with the GPRS in T68m?" will be different depending on who on you ask... there are people there who is quite aware of this problem, and working on the solution, cause R2D is a step in the right direction, it's working a bit better here in Sweden with GPRS now... but those people higher up in will probably not say anything about it, or just "It's not any problem with the GPRS"....
this is in a nutshell... they are very bad at giving out information... even to their servicepoints... so the only we can say when people ask is "they are working on it".... sad but true... |

Good Point Cytech. In my industry, this fault is what we would call a "show stopper". What value is a phone that cannot receive calls! Ok well lets see if others respond we can then see just how wide spread this fault is.
