I've setup me t68 to check for new mail using pop3.thefreeinternet.co.uk but when it logs on to dial up account (which is Genie) it says 'server cannot be found'. Whys this?
I've put all the info required; dial up account, pop3 address, username for email, password for email & so on.
Was i right to put Genie (wap portal 915000) as the dail up account??

Cheers for any help.

in general the pop3 adress is on the form: pop.provider.com and not pop3.provider.com , let try this

try entering 212.95.128.7 as the pop3 server instead.

this is the IP address, available by going to a command prompt/dos window and typing 'ping pop3.thefreeinternet.co.uk' - it then returns the IP address.

i have to use my isp's IP address as the location by name doesn't work.

also, any trouble connecting to Genie wap today?

Try a different dial-up number, I use my BTinternet settings for this, I don't think you can pick up POP3 mail through Genies WAP gateway.

You can use genie to acces pop3, as i do with my e-mail, use the ip number instead of address make sure your port numbers are correct and check if your e-mail provider allows remote acces (you might have to switch it on from the prefs).

be sure you entered the IP address correctly along with username & password - re-enter it all then contact your isp to confirm there's no issues at their end, quite often its just a small typo, re-enter the details to make sure.

also, anyone else on Genie? i tried accessing a SyncML server and changed around my Wap settings - now with everything put back to how it was i cant access any Wap pages - it just stays on 'Loading' ...anyone else encountered this? it collects Pop3 email fine, just my Wap is gone up the spout, no other pages will load either.

Genie can be a bit of an arse, but I've got my POP3 running smoothly.(apart from annoying software bug causing the phone to crash and die). The reason I think that genies been tempremental at the moment is because of the change to o2. If you enter the genie email section and then leave by using the no key, it takes you to the o2 homepage which isnt actually available officially yet!

JohnM was spot on. I changed my dail up account instead of using Genie and it logged on and checked for email. Why cant Genie find the server?
