I've read a review on MobileBurn of the Z600 (written Oct '03). He speculated that possibly a firm ware upgrade in the future could possibly improve the camera's performance (picture quality)... Do you think something like this is possible? He mentioned "magenta" errors with bright lighted objects, I found that to be true with some photos I took.
I see that the camera also got a software version (200307140).

If that article was written in October 2003 then probably it was a pre-production Z600 he was testing and likely that the quality of pics was improved by production time. Certainly I took quite a few pics with mine and found them to be pretty good quality.

As for the question of improving the picture in firmware upgrades then I would say yes becasue they achieved that with the T610 in the second or third firmware upgrade compared to the original firmware

That's most likely the case. I think he did mention that it was a phone destined for the eastern (Malaysian) market.
