I recently got me a Bluetooth headset (Jabra) as was playing around with it while my girlfriend was playing a java game on the T616. When I pressed the call button, the voice command popped up and I was able to make a call, interrupting her in the middle of the game. What surprised me was that after the call, there was no option of returning to the game but the little Java icon was still there. When I went into Games & More, it instantly asked if I wanted to continue with the currently running java app. When I selected yes, the game continued on as if nothing happened! This essentially suspended the game into the background. I tried this again and was able to "suspend" it through a movie and continue playing it afterwards when I got home!

I'm not sure if there are any other ways of getting this to work but to recap:
1. While in the middle of a Java game/app initiate a bluetooth headset connection
2. The phone will pop up the voice command screen, call something/one (I used my voicemail)
3. Hang up.
That's it! the game has now been suspended.

My next task is to try to see what else can cause this and if this works on Mophun games as well!

The only thing you need to do is to call the t610 from another phone while you play a java game and not answer the call. It will work on the same way as @theslugger told but without headsett.
