T68i randomly won't call or text |

Hi all,
I'm new here to bare with me.
I've bought an old T68i from a friend it seemed ok for a while as i don't call often and I just assumed I didn't have much luck with signal.
However I had to call or text a lot of friends over the new year and the T68i would often just fail to connect to the phones. If it was a text it would go to sms/unsent or a call it would beep 3 times then disconnect. I considered i was just unlucky at first, but its doing it with land lines too. So tried my sim with my friends T300 in exactly the same place just 3 mins after and I could call any contact i wanted!
I serached these forums and the FAQ and it seemed to be a generally good idea to update your firmware so I took my phone to Carphone Warehouse which cost £30 (3 month warranty if problem persists). I moved from RC2 to RC8. The same thing happens. Now I maybe to blaim for this as I changed the front panel on my phone for a nice new two tone black and silver one. I was careful to keep the old back as it has my imei on it and I want to stay legit.
I've done a master reset as well.
It still doesn't work properly. As cool as all the bluetooth features etc are I'm really starting to miss my old Nokia 3330 as at least I could use it as a mobile phone.
Please help. |

My T68i did this 'can't call or send SMS' thing once or twice. It was on R2E before and what I did was just turned it off and on again.
When I got my T610, I upgraded the T68i's firmware to R8A. I'm happy to say that it has been working perfectly.

I reallly hope you have some type of warranty on that thing cuz it is fried.
This is a know flaw (Major flaw) of the t68i.
I was on Orange and had my t68i replaced twice. I had exactly the same probs a you have now.
This happen after about six months after buying it.
A friend of mine had it replaced like 5 times in half a year (!) before switching over to Blokia.
So it's unfortunate that you got it secondhand, and I would ask your friend if he had the same probs once in a while.
Maybe he can still have it replaced or he still has the receipt/warranty.
Luck!

Oh, shoot.
Thanks Guys,
CrackerJack I think it is what Rokin said as its more than occasionaly this happens. Bother I bought the phone for £40 but the update cost me £30 argh. I'm not sure there to go SE again, the T610 looks nice at the moment but I don't use the phone side enough for a contract. So its a sim free for me or a Pay as you Go Orange.
I'll buy new next round. One option is a Nokia 7650 as they are phasing them out for cheap now. Tho I've heard they aren't much patch on the T610.
Thanks again and I'll let you know how I get on.
A Note to Admins:
If this really is a common occurance could it be added to the FAQ?
It would have saved me buying an update and I'm sure many others could benefit from it.

@Gunbuster, As the T68 is fairly old, most people who regularly visit Esato would have read the many many threads on this common T68 problem, its what happens to those phones after about 6 months, i think it came down to the ariel contact which is similar the the type used on the battery terminal.
BUT, for what you have paid out, you should have bought one that still has say 6 months warranty left, that way you know you have a good phone for 6 months for your outlay.
remember, the warranty is worth more than the phone when a phone is getting old.

Took my phone back to CPW, they had sold me the software update as a repair becuase I explained the fault. I'm really glad they did as this gave me a 3month warranty on the repair. Basically they said if the same fault occurs they will fix the phone. I took it in around 9am, I was told to phone back at 11am so I did. They said they had replaced the ariel and re-updated the software as well just in case. If the problem persists they said they would be happy to send it to SE for repair. Even if all this doesn't work I have to say full marks to CPW for service and I'd certainly use them for a replacement. |
