Need help: going to China |

I'm going to China (from LA) this summer and need a great tri-band phone to take with me. Will the T68 work? Can any Chinese users tell me if I could buy a prepaid card (with local number) to use with my phone while I am there? Can I access Internet with a prepaid card in China?
Thanks for any help! |

Yes it will work and yes there is prepaid card... if you so happen to be in Hong Kong before going to China, you can also get the cards here so you will know the number of your phone before you leave China... |

Yep, plenty of prepaid card here. Only I doubt if you can use them to dial up to the internet because they don't include a data subscription. I can try this for you, will keep you posted. Another thing that if it might work it is not possible to dial up over GSM to the internet. Here in Shanghai it only works when using 81890, for other dial up nimbers it doesn't work.
Where are you going in China? |

Both the T39 or T68 would be a great phone to use for travelling. |

I used a prepaid one in good old HK, New World Mobility was the network, great reception but it didn't mention anything about wap or gprs, don't think wap is too popular as there aren't too many cantonese/mandarin wapsites last time i checked.
GPRS, depends where in China, if you're in West Chine probably not, Bei Jing, Shanghai should have it. Even here in the UK you have to have a monthly subscription or contract, although a monthly charge is not neccessary and connection is free. |

I haven't seen there is a single piece of mca 20 for sale in Hong Kong. But there is a box set including a T68i and the mca20. Now is on sale. The price is about HK$4300 |

thanks! for your help.
Since I'm only going to be in China for two months, is it possible to buy an inexpensive phone and some kind of service while i travel through the country?
I would appreciate anyone's help. thanks |

As Deltayoda mentioned, the T39 is also a great phone. It's a bit cheaper if you don't want to spend the money for a T68. T39 is a world phone (tri-band) like the T68, so you could also use it in LA.
If you just want a cheap phone to use while you're there, and don't care if it works in the US, maybe some of the other members here can help you with suggestions.

The MCA20 is around HK$950 here (US$120)... but this was the quoted price last month (when it just came out) and was asked at a dealer shop. So I think the price may have come down now...
I want to get one too... but then I am not even sure if HK will provide the MMS upgrade... |
