I've found a way to speed up predictive text a little bit on my Z600 and T610. Go into:

Settings -> Language -> Input

Uncheck the languages that you don't use (in my case, German and French) and press OK. Now instead of the predictive text looking through all of those other dictionaries it only searches the one you need, making T9 faster.

A great tip and a "must use" for those who didn't know it earlier. However, this doesn't really improve the T9 speed on phones like the T230. Disabling "Candidates"/"Word Suggestions" also improves T9 speed marginally. After disabling "Candidates"/"Word Suggestions" one can simply use joystick up/down to cycle through alternate words.

Under my input options, I have English and standard abc, wonder what's the difference? Anyone knows?

@waja800

Selecting 'standard abc' turns off predictive doesn't it? At least, I don't use predictive text and I have my T610 set to 'standard abc'.
