I have a Siemens S55 phone and just bought a inrared port for it.. the infrared port is connected to my pc via USB.

The normal data transfer works fine... but I just tried to update the software on my cell phone and the update program only looks for my cell phone on the two COM ports..

In the help from Siemens it says that I should map my usb connection to a COM port.

How can I achieve that?

Thanks for your help,
Sean.

hmm...if the software that comes along with the IR Port is installed correct it must be done already, it will make a virtual com port called like this: MAT USB to Serial Port..go to the windows system manager and check your Com Ports to see if its installed..

Hmm..

I tried installing it again a few times.. downloaded the driver from the website in case it's newer... but no matter what I do, it doesn't create the virtual com port.

Now I started looking around the web to see if it is possible to create the virtual com port with an extra software.. but as far as I can see the virtual com ports can only be created linked together with the drivers of the device...

any other ideas?

My IR port is from mobileaction (www.mobileaction.com)... maybe that one is shitty?

If I can't get it to work, I'll try to find a different IR port... but if it doesn't work wiht this IR port, maybe it wouldn't work with other IR ports either..

Hi Snibble,

You cant use IrDA to update your S55 firmware, because your phone is off
during update and therefore there is no active infrared! your only choice is a
serial cable.

Hi...

thanks all.

I did get rid of the Infrared port and use a serial cable instead... easier and better and faster... *shrug*

thanks anyway for the help.

ciao,
Sean.
