Hi!
Just wondering if anyone have some experience with writing SMS with Nokia and Ericsson-phones? I had a 3310 and writing SMS with that phone went VERY fast! I have a T68 now, and I often have to wait a LOOONG time to see my entire message on the display. I kind of write faster than the display can manage... Is this normal? I have upgraded to R1C. Both the 3310 and T68 uses T9, but why is the T68 so much slower??? |

Hi!
basically If you are into texting you will be a little bit disappointed with ericsson phones whether its a new model like the T68 or the older ones. Nokia has somehow perfected the user interface with regards to sms or texting via T9 or multitap ( which is very popular in our country). Aside from that ONLY and I repeat ONLY advantage of Nokia, Nokia pale in comparison to any ericsson to date, feature per feature.
I used to be a Nokia owner but I'd seen the light and like most of the forumers here, I think will never be fooled again |

I will probably get lynched for saying this, but I disagree. I just got a T68 and having used it for a month now, there where many usibility features on the nokia 7110 and 6110 that I much prefered to the Ericsson. The 7110 was a great phone and although the T68 beats it on the amount of features it has, the 7110 was def. a better phone from an interface point of view.
There are simple things that the T68 just doesn't do that are quit annoying especially if you are used to a Nokia. For example when you scroll to a number on the Nokia to jump to names beginning with Jam (e.g. James) you just hit
- Scroll button
- 5 (J)
- 2 (a)
- 6 (m)
- Green (dials default number)
which is 5 key presses. On the T68 you need to hit
- Across Joystick
- Yes (address book)
- Yes (call contact)
- 5 (J)
- 2 (a)
- 6 (m)
- Yes (Select James)
- Yes (Select default number)
Which is 8 key presses. You can go to a number directly by hitting down on the joystick, then 5 for J but then you have to scroll through all the J's which is a pain if have lots of numbers about that persons details.
The T68 is a good phone. So is Nokia. If I could combine a lot of the features on both manufactures it would be a great phone, but I think both companies keep missing some simple things |

The only Ericssonphone that I've tried that manages to keep up the pace is the T66, and believe me, it's fast! Faster then my last Nokia... (the one I hade before my T68)
to asevitz:
Try this: move the joystick to the right and hold it there, what happens?

Yeah I have seen that shortcut and it does speed things up a bit. But there are still a whole wack of things that the Nokia does that the Ericsson doesn't. Some of it may be that I am more used to Nokia but some of it I think is more usable.
- Dialing default number on dial
- Being able to re-edit a T9 word (On the you have to delte and start again
- Being able to send the same SMS to multiple people on the fly
- Showing who the delivery report is for.
etc. They are small little things, but definately better ways of doing things. I think the T68 is a great phone, and am happy with it. But it does niggle me every now and then with some things. That and slow SMS typing (I used to send over 700 per month on my nokia). I hope fixes a lot of the niggles in the next software realease, but I have learnt not to hold my breath on these things.

Why don't you
- Press and hold 5 (J)
Only works for names starting with the first letter (a,d,g,j,m, etc) on a number key
- 2 (a)
Jumps to people whos names start with (a)
- 6 (m)
Jumps to people whos names start with (m)
- Yes (Select James)
This is where it should automatically dial the default number. If I want to see all the numbers clicking the Joystick should take me there

so in the end it's all about that Ericsson's got a more advanced phonebook than Nokia (at least the all the Nokias I've tried...) |

Nokias are A LOT FASTER for write a SMS than Ericsson. But defently the Ericsson phones have a lot of Features than nokias don't even think to have in their new versions.
Also The Build of the ericsson phones is better, My last phone was a Nokia 8890, I used all the time a Leather Holster, Once I drop it from my desk to the Carpeted Floor, Upps by mistake, I picked it up and it had nothing, To weeks later the phone started to Turn Off by nothing and when I tried to Turn it back on it displayed a messsage "Contact Service" I removed the SIM card and placed it again and Try to turn on it again and it worked ok again, I took it to Support to fix the problem and guess what?? The phone could not be fixed. Now I have a phone in perfect conditions and it doesn't work!

I agree that Nokia is a lot faster, but that's also cos the Nokia menu has been the same since.... They've had some time to get used to it
I think it's a pity about the crap T9 in but I'm used to it now and just hope it'll get better, at least we know it can't get any worse
I love my T68!!!!

Nokia has better T9 faster for sure and for Spanish people we can write longer sms normal 160 characters, with our Ericssons only 60 Cha. but I still prefer my T68 to any Nokia. |

You know, if you have numbers you call often, try pressing e.x 5 and #. That's the number I call to check my account. How many characters can you have with extra long messages?

As Nokia Mobilephones chief said it's not technology that is implemented into phone, but understanding customer needs is crusial. What comes to sales figures he must be right. Of course some people want whistles and bells, but most of the people want phone that is easy to use. |
