"The Key to Artillery Superiority"

ARTHUR - Weapon Locating Radar

ARTHUR - ARTillery HUnting Radar - is developed to perform as the core element of a brigade or division level Counter Battery Sensor System. Together with a highly developed air-defense capability, the ability to suppress the enemy artillery is the key to maintain a Freedom of Maneuver on the battlefield.

ARTHUR is just as useful to surveillance a peace treaty in a Peace Support Operation, as it is effective in an active Counter Battery Operation.

The tactical flexibility of ARTHUR allows it to be a stand-alone medium range WLR or a long-range weapon locating system, consisting of 2-4 radars working co-ordinated. This flexibility enables the system to maintain a constant surveillance of an Area of Interest in a highly mobile and fragmented battlefield.

ARTHUR is in full-scale series production and the system is continuously improved, based on the feedback from our customers.

Integrated Air Defense

GIRAFFE AMB - 3D Air Defense Search Radar

Now in full-scale series production, the Ericsson GIRAFFE AMB Agile Multi-Beam air defense search radar is the latest in true 3D-radar technology.

Tailored for operations with medium- and short-range surface-to-air missile systems, the GIRAFFE AMB includes an integrated C3 system enabling it to act as the command-and-control center in an air defense system. It can simultaneously be integrated in a cluster of netted GIRAFFE systems, providing outstanding radar cooperation.

GIRAFFE AMB is housed in a single 6 m (20 ft) ISO container mounted on a cross-country truck, offering high mobility, a deployment time of only 10 minutes and a teardown time of three minutes. The cabin has splinter and NBC protection.

Unlike conventional 3D search radar that rely on elevation scanning technology, the GIRAFFE AMB covers a large elevation range simultaneously by using one wide beam for transmission and multiple digitally shaped narrow beams for reception.

This multi-beam antenna concept provides not only superior altitude coverage but, in particular, an unparalleled 3D-target updates rate of one per second, effectively maintaining the inherently high rate of a 2D system.

All targets within the elevation envelope are determined using monopulse techniques, thus ensuring high-quality 3D target data. The maintained pulse density ensures high clutter suppression in adverse weather conditions.

Antenna sidelobes are ultra-low which, combined with pulse-to-pulse and burst-to-burst frequency agility, gives the GIRAFFE AMB outstanding jamming resistance.

*****************************************************

Air and Costal Defense Networks

GIRAFFE S - Early Warning Surveillance Radar

GIRAFFE S, the longest-range member of the well known Ericsson radar family, has two main applications: as a gap-filler radar in air defense early warning systems, in which small low-flying targets must be detected at the longest possible range; and as a coastal surveillance radar, for which the priority targets are small surface vessels and sea-skimming missiles or aircraft.

In its baseline configuration, the GIRAFFE S is installed in a highly mobile cabin, although it is also suitable for customer-furnished buildings.

As an option the system can be operated in an unattended, remote installation connected to an air or coastal defense network in which tracks are automatically transmitted to a manned operations center.

Radar control and status monitoring in such a split configuration are also performed via the network, and the operators and the radar head may be separated by several hundred kilometers.

GIRAFFE S may also be operated in more autonomous roles, for which the radar site is equipped with local operator positions of varying degrees of complexity, e.g. for airport air traffic control or to provide a regional air operations or coastal operations center.

In the GIRAFFE S, state-of-the-art technology is combined with Ericsson's 50 years of experience in the radar field to provide a powerful and cost-effective surveillance radar system.
