concept fones and others...

Concept Phones
In February 2001 Ericsson presented a challenge to third year RMIT Industrial Design students in Melbourne to design and develop a model 3G concept terminal and interface. Students incorporated 3G mobile telephony and associated enablers into individual designs for a selected market segment.
Ericsson judged the terminals on innovation, communication, knowledge, viability and practicality of the design.
Here's how RMIT students saw the 3G future. For larger photos, click each graphic.

DIGITAL KOMMUNIKATION FÖR DÖVA
Ericsson Telecom, Kista

MOBILE HEALTHCARE COMPUTER
Ericsson Telecom, Kista
Mårten Skoger
The aim of the project was to demonstrate how healthcare could benefit from information technology in the near future. The study deals with telemedicine, medical records, decision support and continuous speech recognition.
Field studies at the University Hospital in Umeå have been performed in order to get professional opinions and evaluations on various system solutions. A user friendly design is a key to success for this type of product. It must be quick, safe and reliable as well as cost effective.
The result is a product that distributes knowledge, brings the hospital staff closer to the point of care and reduces paper consumption and patient transfer.

and i sg really INTERESTING... FURNITURES DESIGNED BY ///....

ERICSSON COMMUNICATIONS CANADA -- Mississauga, Ontario
Prior to becoming a client of Design Group Five, Ericsson Communications had moved into new design build premises in Mississauga. They worked with the architect, engineer and builder to do office and workstation layouts. After their move-in, the employees were dissatisfied with their new workplace and we were asked to provide two days consulting and make suggestions on layouts, traffic flow, visual and acoustic privacy and some design aesthetics.
Five years, a dozen moves, and 150 additional staff later, Design Group Five created CAD facility drawings, torn down partitions, created a typical workstation footprint and planning grid, and established facilities procedures for construction and office relocations. This system was put to the test when we directed and co-ordinated a 12,000 sq. ft. record fast track design, construction, furniture acquisition and move-in in 21 days.

Two years after conducting a Feasibility Study of Present and Future Staff Accommodations Ericsson implemented our recommendations of:

-eliminating hard offices on the window

-moving away from fixed height 65 " high panels

-standardising on 51" high flexible height modular panels

-creating teaming work clusters

-supplying mobile casual meeting tables

-creating a casual meeting space or "CyberCafe"

-installing indirect lighting and sound masking

-providing power and data access at worksurface height

full scale working prototype area consisting of 19 workstations was installed and first occupied by a Technology solutions group. The prototype was a success and the project was approved for fully for development in 120,000 square feet. In conjunction, with our partnering with Kathleen Lanni of GSM Design we implemented our strategic office concept.
During the process the Technologies solutions was moved out overnight the Finance department relocated with no changes to the workstations, except for adding four glazed panels onto the existing panels. The workspace worked as well for the external customer Technology group as it did for the privacy and confidentiality sensitive Finance group.
From the above relocation minimal costs where incurred. There was no need to produce workstation layout drawings, physically reconfigure workstations, pull cable, and relocate power poles, light fixtures, or diffusers. Minimal costs associated with "from-to" drawings, relocating personal computers, moving files and reprogramming phones were incurred.
We had designed workstations that supported teamwork yet remained flexible enough for reconfigurations as business needs changed.

ERICSSON PC.
Machine type 1031-002.
Produced in 1984, this IBM clone with amber screen on a beautiful stand was the last product of the Swedish ERICSSON. Hereafter they sold their computer division to the Finnish NOKIA. In 1999 however ERICSSON returned on the computer market with a PDA called MC 218, with various applications in ROM.

/// pipe rider

: Friday, September 8 2000

tComLabs™ the agency responsible for testing and certifying EuroDOCSIS cable
data networking equipment, announced this week that Ericsson's PipeRider
HM201c Cable Modem is certified EuroDOCSIS compliant. The validation marks the
successful completion of Ericsson's entry into the inaugural EuroDOCSIS
certification wave.

EuroDOCSIS, the European version of Data Over Cable Service Interface
Specifications is an interoperability standard for cable modems that allows
cable providers to offer high speed Internet access to their customers, over
the cable TV networks.

PipeRider HM201c is one of the first products from Ericsson's Home
Communications portfolio, providing a variety of new communication solutions
for the home. It will allow users to access the Internet via their cable TV
outlet, up to 100 times faster than the typical analogue modems/ISDN
connections, and eliminate use of the phone line.

"With the cable television market rapidly expanding across Europe, Ericsson is
meeting and exceeding the high speed Internet access needs of consumers," said
Björn Krylander, Vice President and General Manager, Ericsson Home
Communications. "PipeRider HM201c is an example of Ericsson's commitment to
responding to consumer needs."

Ericsson's PipeRider HM201c is the only cable modem that offers an extra layer
of security using PipeLock™ technology. With one touch of a button, all
communications between the computer and the Internet can be suspended. This
ensures total security for the user when the computer is not in use. The
PipeRider HM201c is also the first EuroDOCSIS certified cable modem with a USB
interface connection.

The HM201c follows Ericsson's HM200c Cable Modem as the second cable modem to
meet a cable data networking standard. In July of this year, the HM200c was
certified by CableLabs™ as DOCSIS compliant. "With both modems'
interoperability certified, Ericsson is poised to deliver viable solutions for
the DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS markets, today and in the future," Krylander said.

Ericsson is the leading provider in the new telecoms world, with
communications solutions that combine telecom and datacom technologies with
freedom of mobility for the user. With more than 100,000 employees in 140
countries, Ericsson simplifies communications for its customers - network
operators, service providers, enterprises and consumers - the world over.

I think I am going to print this thread and make a book out of it hehehe great work folks
here is the TH688, it was a dual band GSM/DECT handy, and from what I know remained the unique attempt to combine land lines with radio telephony.
Its "flaw" was that you couldnt roam, for exemple, you are at home, you make a call, it uses the landline (cheaper than mobile in many countries) and then once on the street you would be cut out and have to call again, this time using GSM.

notice the design, its the gh688 but with the /// speaker similar (though uglier) to the SH888.

if anyone used it, comments are most welcome!

@boba, finally you got more pix of the camera. Now I know how it works; I do also like the old PCs; GSM data 9.6k is OK for text email. I run the data connection sometimes too.
@lsursock, Have seen somebody with TH688, but I have never tried using that one.

well... Ericsson hasn't left the phone development completely... DT590 was released last year. However, this DECT phone is only for companies.

I use the cordless phone of Ericsson (230) in my room but in the house we have a new Panasonic one (it has polyphonic melodies ()+caller id)... The funny thing is, my mother uses my phone whenever she is going to call someone because she says the sound is clearer - and she is true! I can't hear a thing when I speak with someone on the panasonic; it sounds so bad and so quiet. But the 230 is very clear & loud.

Here's a pic (taken with T610):

The diff. between 230 and 260 are
-No caller-id
-No time&date on the screen
-no digital/analog answer phone
