Ok, finally got the headset... Paid somewhat through the nose too to get it on the spot, but I couldn't be bothered to wait for an order to come in from ~5-10% cheaper places...
Now, usage comments with PC. (this is my first BT headset, do please forgive any "doh!"s)
I'm using a Windigo-based dongle with the latest XTNDConnect Blue Manager 3.1a . It should be noted here that if you can't be bothered to email them (they responded after ~3 days) for a password for the .zip off the website, just google it (I found it within 30sec).
1) It connects just fine. Register the headset as a trusted device, use the "0000" builtin password once, and you're there. Afterwards, everytime you connect it to the PC, Windows Audio Properties window pops up and you can choose if you want it as the default device for playback, recording, or in general to... talk to about meaning of life stuff...
2) Received audio quality seems to be fine. When receiving audio from the pc, it's... well... 8KHz fine, but it's still clear and constant .
3) When transmitting audio (ie using the mic), it's a different story.
- Audio crackles quite a bit, even when I'm standing over my PC. Don't know what's up with that.
- The mic seems to add considerable distortion (hiss) for some reason. The hiss is in a quiet environment, so it's got to be mic/calibration related, it's not actually generated by anything external.
- Finally, there's A LOT of echo. I have to turn the volume of the speaker all the way down, and that still just minimizes the echo to manageable levels.
4) There's CONSIDERABLE lag for transmitted audio. A clear 1 second lag, in fact, I'd have to say.
I cannot comment on how the headset will perform with a phone, because my T610 won't be back in my loving arms until Friday, after having been sent off for repairs (repaid some SERIOUSLY bad software karma). This also means I don't know which (if any) of the above problems are due to bad dongle/XTND juju, and which are a permanent part of the HBH-35's spunky personality...
Anybody around here willing to compare experiences with the headset and/or PC, please step forward, the floor is yours.
cheers
Alex
